EBWF Warfare
Live from Kansas City
Monday, April 9, 2018
[The backstage area of the Sprint Center is busy with hundreds of bodies, trying to ensure this episode of EBWF Warfare goes off without a hitch. Interns are fetching coffee for executives, an assortment of talent are going over scripts with writers, and opponents are discussing spots and finishes as the camera’s view is capturing whatever footage possible for its future behind-the-scenes special to run on ESPN. The path of the cameraman runs past all the commotion, familiar faces of the EBWF roster, and even catches a glimpse of Chris Jericho goofing off and waving to the lens while sipping on a Fiji bottled water.
[The final destination after a 90 second walk down the concrete corridor is a swinging aluminum door with an engraved plate reading the word “MOXLEY” stuck in the center of the door, about a quarter of the way from the top ledge. The next visible entity into frame is the sleek, young body of Renee Young. She holds a microphone under her right armpit as she uses her fingers to adjust the custom fit Versace dress down her thighs in order to present herself in a seemingly more professional fashion.]
Renee: “I swear I told them to hem it to here.”
[She points a little lower than her mid-thigh while letting out an adorable laugh. She shows a struggle with self-esteem issues as she covers her wide, bright smile embarrassingly. She pulls the microphone from under her arm and uses the other hand to grab her iPhone X from the table next to her. She uses her face recognition to unlock the screen and begins swiping with her index finger of the hand gripping the mic. She opens a camera app or something similar and begins fidgeting with her hair after placing the mic onto the table.]
[Renee then pushes the sides of her hair hanging next to her face behind her ears. She reaches into the cleavage of her dress and extracts a tube of red lipstick. She puckers her lips in a near-duck sense and begins applying the ruby color to her luscious lips. She places the tube back into the crevice of her dress and readjusts the dress once more for an extra length she can garner before rolling her eyes at the height it continues sitting at.]
Renee: “I’ll never go through them again. The most ridiculous dress I’ve ever bought, I swear. Price and the way it fits…”
[The door opens as Jon Moxley’s oversized figure creeps from behind the door and peeks at Renee. He looks her up and down and scratches his scruffy chin. She doesn’t notice him and shows the surprise upon catching his glance. She lets out a yelp.]
Moxley: “Sup?”
[Renee tries to gather her bearings and begins playing with her jewelry and hair out of nervousness.]
Renee: “I didn’t see you there… Jon, I was hoping to get a few words in with you for this behind the scenes film we were shooting for ESPN.”
[Moxley shakes his head.]
Moxley: “No… Nope. No thanks…”
[Renee looks up at Moxley, slightly confused by his response.]
Renee: “Um… I didn’t…”
[Renee tries to find the right words but to no avail.]
Moxley: “I’m not trying to offend you or anything. I hope you didn’t take that the wrong way. I’ve just got a lot on my plate right now. See, I was sitting back here in my room and I had to watch the last two living Beatles show their support for this guy who dresses like an 80’s female star in a generation where women’s wrestling is the current revolution. I’m all for equality, but that’s such a drastic turn… and maybe for the worst?”
Renee: “I think you’re talking about two veterans in the business. The William Regal and Dave Fin–“
Moxley: “Yeah, those guys. Those are the ones! I would’ve paid better money to watch them chase each other around Benny Hill style. But here they are, endorsing another nameless face in the crowd. This Pete Dunne character is no more than another one-off who talks a good game, but he has a lot of actions to put up in order to match the two. He wants to talk styles and skills and really it doesn’t have anything to do with either. Those two buddies of his were making pop tunes while the Stones were creating rock ‘n roll out of the blues. Almost coincidentally, when I pop Pete’s neck from his shoulders, he’ll be feeling blue. And every shade of it too. To match his skin… I don’t give a damn about a couple of old hippies promoting how great the cute one from One Direction is and the music he makes.”
Renee: “Jon, none of that is actually accurate. These are just metaphors, you know that, right?”
Moxley: “Are you going to keep cutting me off?”
Renee: “Actually, it was you that cut me off–“
Moxley: “Irrelevant.” [long pause] “Anyway… as I was saying before I was so rudely] interrupted…”
[Renee rolls her eyes, almost too obviously.]
Moxley: “Metaphorically speaking… this is just a sign o’ the times, baby. And the time is tonight. And the place is the Sprint Center, right here in Kansas City, Missouri. And the who is Jon Moxley! And the what is victory. And the when is at the end of my match with young Peter Dunne. And the how is…”
[Moxley quits speaking, as if he’s almost forgot what he was going to say. Renee seems hesitant and cautiously begins speaking into the microphone once more.]
Renee: “Yo–“
Moxley: “And the how… is… well, you’ll just have to tune in to find out exactly how it all goes down. You and every fan in that arena will not be disappointed. Now that I can promise you.”
[The scene fades to black.]
