Facing his Demons

The scene opens to Jeff Hardy sitting at the end of the bar, in his usual hangout. He is watching the people around him. There is a young couple who can’t keep their hands off each other, the anciently old man two barstools down that can barely keep his head up, and the middle aged couple that anyone can tell really can’t stand each other. The Rainbow Haired Warrior is startled out of his people watching when the bartender asks if he wants another drink.

Hardy: “Just one more Gus, then I better call it a night. I have to go meet Beth and the girls.”

Gus pours another Vodka and slides it towards Hardy. Jeff slams down the drink, pays his tab and gets up to leave the bar. Just as he was headed to the door, the middle aged couple began to argue. The woman stood up from the table, pushing her chair backwards, knocking Hardy into the young couple’s table. When he hit the table it spilled the young woman’s drink on her lap which infuriated her partner. He stood up from his chair and began yelling at Hardy. At that very second all hell broke loose in the little, normally peaceful dive bar that The Charismatic Enigma hung out in. The scene faded to black just as the middle aged man was punched in the face by his wife.

Second scene

The scene opens up to show Beth Hardy bringing an ice pack upstairs to give to Jeff. She entered the room and found him sitting on the edge of the bed. He looked up as she walked in. He knew he had to say something.

Jeff: “I know you are upset that I missed dinner. I can’t imagine how disappointed the girls are. I had no way of knowing that a brawl was going to break out. I was in the process of leaving the bar.”

Beth: “Why were you there in the first place? You were supposed to be meeting your family for dinner. Was having a drink at the bar more important than your family?”

Jeff: “You know that is not true. I stopped in for a quick drink because I had about an hour before we met. I should have known better.”

Beth: “That is the problem, you think of the consequences after the fact. When are you going to pull your head out of your ass and get yourself together? Your family needs you. I love you with all of my being, but me and the girls deserve better. The girls adore you. I think it is time that we go stay with my sister for a while. That will give you time to decide what you want, your addictions or your family.”

The Extreme Enigma let his head fall. He knew she was right. He grabbed her hand and began to speak.

Rainbow Haired Warrior: “I want my family, there is no question about it. I love you and the girls with all of me. I do not know what the hell is wrong with me.Every since Dad passed I just can’t seem to get myself out of this funk. I need help Beth. Please don’t give up on me.”

Beth: “I would never do that. I agree you need some help, so let’s get you the help you need. I will be there for you. Let’s just get you well. I have packed bags for the girls and myself. We will be at my sister’s. After you finish with the King of the Ring tournament we will find a center for you to check into.”

Hardy looked into his wife’s eyes, he could tell she was very serious. He began to speak.

Jeff:”Okay babe, okay.

Hardy watched as his family pulled out of the driveway and drove down the street. Jeff went into the house to take a nap before he had to go to the arena. The scene slowly faded to black.

The scene opens up to Hardy grabbing his bag from baggage claim. He had arrived in Hampton, Virginia. He got into his rental car and drove to the Hampton Coliseum. The whole drive there he thought about his family. When he arrived at the Coliseum, he was on his way to the entrance when he was stopped by a reporter. The well dressed woman shoved a microphone in his face.

Reporter:”Is it true that you were involved in a bar fight a few days ago?”

The Charismatic Enigma removed his sunglasses and began to speak.

Hardy:”I will not answer any questions about my personal life. You can ask me anything about my match tonight, but my personal life is off limits.”

Reporter:”Okay, fair enough. Tonight you face Fin Balor in a first round match for the King of the Ring Tournament. What are your thoughts on this match.”

Jeff smirked and began to speak.

Rainbow Haired Warrior:”My thoughts, I am looking forward to this match. Balor walks around acting like he is God’s gift to wrestling, it is about time someone knocks him down a few notches. He may have a good win loss record, but to me that means nothing. He is not even on my level. Next question.”

Reporter:”You seem pretty sure of yourself. You are not at all worried about this match?”

Hardy laughed and continued to speak.

Charismatic Enigma:”No I am not. While I can say that Balor is a great talent, there are definitely several wrestlers who are better, myself included. Two weeks ago I had a match against Johnny Gagano, people thought he would defeat me and they were wrong. I have built my career on people doubting me. I have been in many matches where I was not the favorite to win but did it anyway. I use people’s negativity to give me the drive I need to win.”

Reporter:”One last question, do you have any words for your opponent?”

Jeff put his sunglasses back on and continued to speak.

Hardy:”Well as a matter of fact I do. Fin, you have your work cut out for you. I am at a point in my career where I just don’t give a shit. I will do whatever it takes to win. You can let your little cronies if they want to get involved bring it. I didn’t get the nickname Extreme Enigma for nothing. I constantly put my body on the line in my matches. I do what it takes to get the win and this time will be no different. You call yourself the Demon, well you better bring your Demon side to this match because that is the only way you have a chance to beat me. Like I said you are not even on my level. I will have no problem with taking you down, and going on to be crowned King of the Ring!!”

Jeff put his sunglasses back on and pushed his way past the reporter to continue into the Coliseum.

The scene slowly faded to black.
