Back Under The Lights

Post by Mysterio »

(Our scene opens to the backstage area of an arena. Justin Roberts is in the center of our scene, wearing a suit and toting a microphone. Behind Roberts is a large television, which displays the official EBWF logo. )

Justin Roberts: Welcome wrestling fans! I’m of course Justin Roberts and I want to thank you for joining me this evening.

(Roberts pauses as the camera shot settles on him, with the EBWF logo in the background. )

Justin Roberts: I don’t think you’re going to be disappointed in the slightest, because joining me momentarily is the newest EBWF free agent signing and one of the most exciting wrestlers in the history of our business.

(Roberts looks off to his right for a moment before returning his attention to the camera. )

Justin Roberts: Ladies, gentlemen, it’s with great pleasure that I present to you, the one, the only…Rey MYSTERIO!

(The camera angle expands as Rey Mysterio enters the scene from the right. He’s wearing in-ring pants, a t-shirt and his mask, which is complete with an intricate black and light blue design. )

Justin Roberts: Rey, I’m not quite sure what to say except for, welcome back to the big time!

Rey Mysterio: Thank you, thank you. It’s great to be here, Justin. It feels like I’ve been out from under the bright lights for too long and I can’t imagine a better place to get back under those lights than right here in the EBWF!

Justin Roberts: I assure you this Rey, we’re as happy to have you here, as it seems you are to be here. What are you looking forward to the most?

Rey Mysterio: That’s tough man, that’s real tough. There is so much about this business that I love. I guess if you’re going to make me pick one it’s getting out there and performing in front of the fans. There is no rush like getting out there in the ring and doing what I love, and getting a reason from the people, man. There is just nothing like it.

Justin Roberts: I’ve had the opportunity to interview a lot of competitors in my career and I can tell how much this sports means to you.

Rey Mysterio: It means a lot to me man, it really does. I’m blessed because I get to do what I love for a living. If that wasn’t enough, I get paid for doing what I love. How many people can say that, man? I love wrestling and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else with my life. I’m blessed and I can’t wait to get out there and perform.

Justin Roberts: I think all the EBWF fans would agree that we’re just as excited to see you back out there. Speaking of getting in the ring, your first match is going to be on Warfare.

Rey Mysterio: That’s right, man. And I wouldn’t want it any other way. Warfare has been the premier wrestling show for as long as I remember and I’m honored to perform my craft on a show with such history.

Justin Roberts: Not to put a damper on your return, but in your initial match you’re going to be wrestling not one, but two other athletes. This includes the seven-foot monster, the Big Show.

Rey Mysterio: It’s all good Justin, you’re not putting a damper on anything. I wouldn’t be a professional wrestler if I got intimidated that easily. I couldn’t look myself in the mirror each morning if I got intimidated at the mention of someone’s name, even someone like the Big Show. And that’s not taking anything away from the Big Show, man, he’s a hell of a wrestler and one of the most physically dominant guys I’ve ever been in the ring with. I’d be kidding you, the fans and myself if I told you I was taking the Big Show lightly. He’s the kind of guy that can go out there and win any match, on any night, against any opponent. And that includes on Warfare in the triple threat match. If I’m not as close to perfect as I can be in my return, then the Big Show is capable of putting me through the canvas, man. But, preparation is half the battle and you better believe that I’m going to be prepared.

Justin Roberts: I don’t doubt that this match has a chance to steal the entire show.

Rey Mysterio: That’s why they wrestle the matches, right? If I have anything to say about it this is going to a match that EBWF fans won’t soon forget.

Justin Roberts: We touched on the fact that this is going to be a triple threat match, which of course means that the Big Show isn’t going to be your only opponent. The final piece of the triple threat match is going to be one of the most legendary competitors in the history of our sport…Hollywood Hogan.

Rey Mysterio: You’re right, man, Hollywood Hogan is one of the most famous guys in our business. He is a lot of the reason that the sport of professional wrestling is what it is today. But, it’s like I said before, man, I wouldn’t be a professional if I let myself get intimidated by anyone, especially just with the mention of a name. Hollywood Hogan’s resume is as impressive as anyone in our business, and I can’t take that away from him. I don’t want to take that away from him Justin, it’s not what I’m about. I’m not about hating on anyone, man, and I have no problem giving credit where credit is due. And make no mistake about it, Hogan deserves a whole lot credit. But, remember this Justin, credit doesn’t win wrestling matches. Being the best in the ring on any given night wins wrestling matches. And just like I said with the Big Show, if I don’t bring my absolute best to the ring on Warfare, Hollywood Hogan is more than capable of making me pay for it. That’s not my plan though man, my plan is to bring my A game out there and see what happens.

Justin Roberts: The Big Show hasn’t had much to say about the match to this point, but Hollywood Hogan has had more than his fair share to say.

Rey Mysterio: I’ve heard, man, I’ve heard. He’s had all kinds of stuff to say about the match and about the EBWF in general. That’s his game though Justin, that’s what he’s about. Hogan likes to make his feelings known and likes to get his opinions out there. And you know what, Justin? That’s okay with me. Everyone has their own style and they’re own way, and that’s part of what makes this sport so exciting. You’re never going to see two guys go about their day in the same way. Everyone has their or her own style. Some people like to talk in front of the cameras as much a possible, and some guys try to let their work in the ring do their talking as much as possible. It’s all about style. Hogan decided he wanted to talk all week and that’s cool, but just like credit doesn’t win wrestling matches, neither does talking.

Justin Roberts: It’s an interesting point you make about style, because each of the three competitors in this match has their own distinct style.

Rey Mysterio: Exactly. I’ve got my style, Hogan has his and the Big Show has his. I think what makes this match so special if you ask me. Hogan likes to try reminding his opponent who he is and what he has done, and tries to take his opponents out of their comfort zone in doing so. The Big Show likes to rely on his size to muscle opponents. And you know what, both of those guys have been successful using their own style. Hogan has accomplished a ton, and the Big Show’s resume is impressive too. The fact is though Justin, I’ve accomplished just as much with my style. I’m no stranger to big matches, man. It sounds like Hogan thinks that he’s the only one who’s been in big matches before, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve been in big matches time and time again, and I know how to get it done, Justin. That’s taking no respect away form what Hogan has been able to do in his career, but it’s me telling Hollywood that this match isn’t going to be as easy as he thinks it is. I said I need to bring my A game to Warfare, and so does Hollywood. And so does the Big Show. I’m going to bring my all and we’ll see what happens, man.

Justin Roberts: Whatever ends up happening in the ring, I can assure each of our fans that its’ going to be another excellent night of BWF action at Warfare. Best of luck to you, Rey, and thank you for joining me.

Rey Mysterio: My pleasure, and I want to tell the great EBWF fans out there not to miss Warfare, because Rey Mysterio is back, baby!

(The scene fades from a shot of the EBWF graphic on the large television screen that was serving as the backdrop of our scene. )

i was fearing i wasn't gonna have any competition for Warfare. I liked the RP, i could actually picture Mysterio on camera saying those exact words!
