Leading the Way

Post by Kyle »

OOC: As usual if anyone has feedback it would be appreciated. Good luck to Dan and everyone writing today.

For nearly 4 months Ted had been unstoppable, defeating opponents left, right and centre. On Sunday he would go toe to toe with the Olympic Gold Medallist, Kurt Angle. In his prime, Kurt was an unstoppable wrestling machine, citing the three I's: Intelligence, Integrity and Intensity. Following those three I's he worked his way to claiming over 12 World Championships. Ted was in store for a tough fight against a very formidable opponent. But the Kurt Angle that won 12 World Championships was not the same Kurt Angle that was Ted at Death Before Dishonor. Kurt was now 43 and had been wrestling for over 14 years, injuries have limited his ability and the intensity he once displayed has now gone. Granted, he is still very intelligent and displays great amounts of integrity, would the lack of intensity hurt his chances at trying to take the championship from DiBiase?

The Honda Center is the venue for Death Before Dishonor, and Ted was set and ready to go. The previous year's event did not work well in his favour as he lost to Brian Kendrick in an I Quit match. It was one of the more embarrassing situations in his career having to utter the words I Quit, but it was needed to keep the sadistic Kendrick from slicing Ted's throat with a knife. Tonight there would be no knives, no weapons, just two men battling for supremacy in the ring. Ted arrived at the arena in the afternoon and went straight to his personal locker room. Entering the locker room he threw his bags to the ground and immediately left. He was now off in search of Jim Ross, arguably the best commentator in professional wrestling. He soon found the room where the interviews would be taking place and Jim was found inside. There were two black leather chairs positioned in the middle of the room with a camera crew in position to film everything. JR stood up and shook Ted's hand before sitting back down. Ted took a seat and positioned his beloved championship belt over his shoulder, showing it off to the world.

Jim Ross: Good evening everyone, with me is the Path to Glory Champion Ted DiBiase. I'd like to thank you first off for agreeing to this interview.

Ted simply nodded as JR continued to speak.

Jim Ross: At Death Before Dishonor, you put your championship title up against Kurt Angle, arguably one of the greatest athletes in professional wrestling.

Ted Jr: He used to be a great athlete in his prime, no doubt about it. But now he is a shell of his former self. He is not in my league anymore, nobody is. I have risen above everybody in this business. I have defeated EBWF legends and former World Champions.

Jim Ross: Don't you think that you're underestimating Kurt's abilities? He is still a great athlete and with his amateur wrestling background, it'd be hard for anyone to compete with that.

Ted Jr: Don't you think you're underestimating MY skills? I'm not even 30 and I've become a World Champion in the greatest wrestling organisation in the world. I have defeated the likes of Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton, Chris Jericho, HBK, all greats in this business. Kurt is much older than me and far past him prime. Maybe 10 years ago he would have beaten me with ease, but now it is I that will win with ease.

Jim Ross: On Warfare we heard you claim that you are going to resurrect The Trilogy and EBWF will change forever, how will you change EBWF?

Ted Jr: If you look at EBWF it has become stale, the same people are in the spotlight. You have John Cena, CM Punk, Wes Ikeda and Chris Jericho all hogging the spotlight. Rewind two years and once again it was those four. There was a time where I was the dominant force in EBWF, a time where I held the World Championship and the Tag Team Championship simultaneously and it hasn't been done since. I am now slowly becoming a force to be reckoned with and it isn't long before I expose EBWF to my greatness. I made The Trilogy famous; before I was in The Trilogy they had Funaki, a useless excuse for a wrestler whose greatest achievement was interviewing real wrestlers. I helped AJ Styles win the Intercontinental Championship, I defeated Jeff Hardy after The Miz failed to do so. When the two of them were bickering and fighting between themselves I continued to defend my championship against all challengers. I used them to get my name back into the spotlight and it worked. Now with Miz gone and AJ keeping the World Championship warm for me, I'm preparing to unveil to EBWF the new Trilogy. The difference between the new Trilogy and the former Trilogy is that I will rule, I have the vision and the plans to take over EBWF. I will not deal with egos and I will not accept failure. THAT is the difference between my Trilogy and what Miz called The Trilogy.

Jim Ross: It seems that you're focused more on your future plans than the present; won't this put your title in danger?

Ted Jr: I have not looked like losing this title since I have won it. The week after Destiny, I will become the longest reigning Path to Glory Champion, eclipsing CM Punk's reign and defining myself as the greatest champion ever. I am currently the longest reigning champion currently in EBWF. Should I hold this championship until the end of October I will become the longest reigning champion in the history of EBWF. I have already gone through World Champions and EBWF legends; there is no real challenge for me.

Jim Ross: Anything can happen in EBWF, upsets can occur. Before this interview concludes I'll give you the final word.

Ted Jr: No fluke will take my championship away from me. No lucky break will pin me. The only way that you can take my Path to Glory Championship is by destroying me. We are almost half way through this year and we have still got a long way to go. I promise you, by the end of this year the world will know Ted DiBiase not as the best Path to Glory Champion ever, but the greatest wrestler in existence.

The interview ended and the recording stopped.

Scene 2

Standing next to Matt Striker had become the normal pre-match ritual for Ted DiBiase. Almost every event Striker would be the man interviewing him, Ted saw it as bestowing a great honour upon the announcer/interviewer, while Striker just saw it as another job. Striker stood in front of the camera dressed in a business suit and with a microphone in hand. Ted stood next to him in his ring gear and with the Path to Glory Championship securely around his waist.

Matt Striker: Welcome everybody to Death Before Dishonor, we have some amazing matches for you tonight with AJ Styles defending the World Championship against Chris Jericho, The Charismatic Enigma Jeff Hardy facing off against the Silent Assassin Randy Orton and we will also see the Olympic gold medallist challenging the man standing next to me for his Path to Glory Championship, please welcome Ted DiBiase.

The camera panned to show Ted standing with a smug grin on his face. He looked like he had no care in the world.

Matt Striker: Tonight you face Kurt Angle, a man that has made his career out of winning championships, how will you be able to stop him from taking your championship?

Ted Jr: Kurt's not a young man anymore, he's old, and he’s hurt. He used to be a dominant force in the wrestling business but now he is nothing but an afterthought. He may have been the past, but I'm the present and the future and tonight he has no chance against me.

Matt Striker: I caught up with Kurt earlier and he claimed that he is here 'to revive EBWF' and he also says that the Path to Glory title is meaningless with you as a champion. Your thoughts?

Ted Jr: Who did I defeat to win this championship? A 4 time World Champion, 2 time Intercontinental Champion, a 6 time Tag Team Champion and a 3 time X-Division Champion. That is a man that has won 16 championships, including his Path to Glory reign, in this company alone. He is a world renowned athlete who I defeated. Who did I defeat at the Aftermath? That would be the longest reigning World Champion in EBWF history, Randy Orton. Two huge names in EBWF both lost to me. In my first reign as PTG Champion, I defeated CM Punk, one of my greatest rivals. I have beaten the best the company has to offer and Kurt has the audacity to say that the championship is worthless with me holding it. This isn't 1996 in Atlanta, Kurt. It's 2012 in Anaheim, California, and I am at the top of the food chain and that is how it will stay for a very long time.

Matt Striker: Final question, on Warfare we saw you backstage briefly with Bully Ray, do you have anything to say on that?

Striker held the microphone towards Ted, but Ted left the interview set, avoiding the question. After hearing the comments from Kurt Angle, Ted was determined to show him that he was wrong. Ted was walking into Anaheim as the Path to Glory Champion, and he would be walking out of Anaheim still Path to Glory Champion.

Yo Kyle, good promo work here. I would love to see some behind the scene work with Ted sometime. See what he does when he's not being a bad ass, ya know? Not taking away from this though, nice work.

I agree. You have such a good feel for him on screen. Can't wait to see where the character goes. This is some nice work right here!

Thanks guys, I'll try to start talking about Ted out of the ring, I have noticed that I've lacked that in my writing.
Cheers.
