The Standard

Post by Ashlee »

A new year. Trish Stratus rarely concerned herself with things like resolutions, but she wasn’t completely against the prospect of renewal. She wasn’t a religious person, but her yoga practice, meditation and focus on mindfulness made her rather spiritual at times. The Royal Rumble brought with it hopes for new opportunities in the EBWF. Hopes that Trish found herself having when she’d thought she’d given up on them a long time ago. She hadn’t planned on trying to win the EBWF Women’s Tag Team Championships with her best friend, Natalya, but that had been something that had just sort of happened. Trish thought she knew where this newfound confidence was coming from, but she worried it was too soon to put too much stock in it. Not after the last time. Trish had been at this for a long time, and she felt as though she couldn’t turn around without being told how old she was. Washed up. Yesterday’s Diva. There had a been a time, a dark time, in her life in which she’d bought into that. She had wrongly believed that she wouldn’t be any better than dark match losses and AJ Styles. She didn’t know when she’d given up on herself, or come to accept mediocre as enough for her. She felt lucky now. Lucky that she’d put all of that behind her. There had been a shift in her thinking. She’d awoken one day to determine that she wasn’t going to let Allen Jones do the things he’d been doing to her anymore. In the aftermath of that new confidence, came the desire to want to do more, be more. She hadn’t yet performed in her final act. She knew that for sure now. She looked across the small, two seater table. It was draped in a pretty white table cloth, and brunch had already been served. One Mimosa wouldn’t hurt.

Nick Nemeth: …and that was when Ryan threw the ball at my face.

Trish stared down at her plate for a moment, and then looked up at him, cocking her head.

Trish Stratus: I’m sorry, what?

Nick smiled at her.

Nick Nemeth: I asked you if they cooked your eggs right. But you were staring off into space. I’ve been saying outlandish things for at least twenty seconds. What’s on your mind, pretty girl?

She smiled down at her plate. Her cheeks growing hot when he called her that.

Trish Stratus: I was just thinking that I think… I think I want to try to lobby for the win tonight. I want back in this.

She watched his smile spread a little. He’d had his own struggles in finding his definitive place on the roster, but she didn’t feel like she couldn’t talk to him about this.

Nick Nemeth: If that’s what you want, Trish, I think that’s amazing. You’re still the best as far as I’m concerned.

Trish Stratus: I don’t know about that, but that’s nice. Thank you.

Nick Nemeth: Well, I’m the expert. And I do know it. Don’t worry. You’ll be amazing. Don’t let your eggs get cold.

She watched him reach his hand across the table, and then he grabbed hers. Squeezing it as he smiled at her. Then she picked her fork back up, and nodded. There was no reason why she couldn’t be amazing. There was no reason why she couldn’t go to Wrestlemania. She was going to prove that.

She’d considered going out to the ring and speaking directly to the arena, but that didn’t feel right. She’d thought about standing in front of the material representations of her amazing accomplishments, but she was worried she’d be playing into everyone’s hand. This wasn’t about the past, it was what she was still capable of. So she’d called a cameraman, and now she stood alone, in front of the standard, white, stone arena wall. When the red light came on, she channeled the Quintessential Diva, and she’d never felt more sure about anything.

Trish Stratus: The underrated event of the Royal Rumble occurs every year when the Divas get their chance. Only one of us can go on to Wrestlemania, and this year I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that someone is me. Everyone who is anyone in this business knows Trish Stratus, and most of the women on this roster would credit me as their inspiration for becoming a Diva in the first place. Nothing beats the original. I am the longest reigning EBWF Women’s Champion of all time. I’ve been in the EBWF for a long, long time, and it’s been ten years since I last won the EBWF Women’s Royal Rumble. It’s time to change that. Don’t call it a comeback, call it inevitable. Eleven other women will enter the ring with me, and I will have to see every, last one of them eliminated if I am to get my chance to reclaim my throne at Wrestlemania.

Trish smiled.

Trish Stratus: I don’t know how our little golden calf drew the short straw, but Brie Bella, your 2014 Queen of the Ring, sure was unlucky at drawing number one. Then of course because fate and the stars aligned, her dimwitted sister Nikki drew number two. It’s beyond me how two people could share the same DNA and one could be so promising, so great, and the other? Yeah, not so much. I’m not even sure why these two wanted to be wrestlers. They’re a little out of their element beside some of the names in Diva’s Rumble. Even Alexa Bliss cam hold her own in the ring. I know I’m old news as far as most of these girls are concerned, but what’s hilarious to me is that the girls who have the courage to be the rudest? They’re the ones in the “B column”. The B Column, that’s going to consist of the Bella Bimbos, Eva Marie, Summer Rae, and yeah, sorry, but Emma too. They’re the five chicks least likely to win this matchup. They’ll have to get through a whole lot of talent, talent which Brie only marginally possesses, and the other four lack entirely.

Trish rolled her eyes.

Trish Stratus: Of course, my long time for Torrie Wilson will show up to this match probably with plans to prove herself, but Torrie is just going to have to go back to the end of the line. I’m not entirely sure where MsChif has been, I’m actually kind of shocked that she still works here, but she’s another warm body that’s going to have to go over the top rope. Angelina Love is another one who likes to run her mouth, but she seems to be having some trouble in the ring lately. Of all the ladies in EBWF, Angelina was probably the one I’d have chosen to take up my mantle. To keep women’s wrestling fresh and innovative. She let her ego in the world get to her didn’t she? Let her little friendship troubles stifle her opportunities. Now Velvet Sky is looking like the likely candidate to forge a new path for the future of Women’s Wrestling, and I’d be the first person in line to support her, except, i’m not done yet. My amazing friend Natalya comes in this match at number 10, and later on we’ll team up to take on those wastes of space Eva and Summer for their tag championships. I intend to take those too, but my crowning achievement tonight will be seeing Emma and Paige, and all the others tossed out, leaving me to go to Wrestlemania where I fully intend to become the new Women’s Champion. I don’t believe in resolutions, but 2015 is going to be the year that Trish Stratus reminds the world why she is the best, the ultimate, and the original diva. And just remembers ladies, it’s not showing off, if you back it up.

She winked at the camera, and it faded to black.
