This is What You Live For

Post by Ashlee »

When Trish had heard what the Royal Rumble finish looked like she was oddly happy for Jamie Szantyr. Velvet was, at this point, also an EBWF Vet, and just the knowledge that someone else who had worked so hard, for so long, was getting a chance at the spotlight, that was really all Trish needed. She hoped she had proved that “the old guard” could still bring it in the women’s locker room. It wasn’t so much that Trish had an “us vs. them” mentality, but she couldn’t ignore the fact that Sasha Banks had held the championship for so long. It had felt like EBWF had given up on tested divas, but her win, and the passing of the torch to Jamie, felt like a win for the entire division. Now the rematch had been booked which meant that one of them was going to have a Wrestlemania moment. On screen, Trish couldn’t be thrilled about that, but privately, Trish was glad to know that if it wasn’t going to be her, it was going to be Jamie.

Alexa Bliss had steamrolled her way through the Women’s Rumble, and it looked like she might have the opportunity for a victory at Wrestlemania, regardless of who her opponent was. Trish hoped that meant exciting things were planned for the women’s division. The EBWF had recently named a lot of women to its board of directors, another interesting move. Maybe Wes’ antiquated thoughts on women’s wrestling were being improved by his marriage to Natalie. Trish could only hope.

Much had changed in the quintessential diva’s life as of late. Along with reemerging as a key player in the women’s division, having held the women’s tag titles and women’s championship to expand her role on screen, she also had a lot of things shifting in her personal life. Her ex-husband, Shane Helms, had decided to come out or retirement to work a part time schedule with EBWF. The former couple had a seven-year-old daughter, Teagan. Trish was very lucky in that their marriage had not ended badly. Their relationship continued to be a very amicable one, and they co-parented without strife or the drama that so often came with divorce. Shane and Trish often said that their marriage hadn’t failed. It just ended naturally, when it was supposed to. They were excellent, loving parents, and they focused on continuing to be great partners in that. Shane had hung up his boots, agreeing to raise their daughter full-time while Trish continued to tour with EBWF. That was the biggest change with Shane’s return. He was only out on the road a couple of weeks a month, but it had definitely changed things for Teagan. She was seeing a bit more of the world she lived in, and Shane and Trish were relying on grandparents and family just a bit more. Still, she wasn’t bitter about Shane’s return to the wrestling world. In fact, he was her friend, and she was very happy for him. He had sacrificed much of the last few years so Teagan could have one of them at home. It was his turn to have a bit of the spotlight back.

After EBWF Warfare had gone off the air Trish was leaving the Banker’s Life Fieldhouse. She wore an EBWF branded t-shirt, and distressed jeans, and she held her duffle in hand. Matt Striker followed by a camera crew, came around the corner, as she’d expected.

Matt Striker: Trish, early tonight we saw you go out to the ring and request a rematch against Velvet Sky for the Women’s Championship at Fallout. There seemed to be some mutual respect over the last month between the two of you.

Trish Stratus: Don’t get me wrong, Matt. I want to beat Velvet as bad as I’ve ever wanted to beat anyone, but I gave her the courtesy of accepting her challenge, and I’m hopeful she’ll do the same for me.

Matt Striker: That’s why I’ve come to find you, Trish. I’ve just learned that Velvet has granted your rematch at Fallout.

Trish Stratus: Well, I’m thrilled to hear it. One of us will go on to Wrestlemania to face Alexa Bliss, and this is the perfect opportunity for that rookie to see what she’ll be up against come the greatest show of them all. Now, if you’ll excuse me, Matt. I was on my way out.

Matt Striker: Of course, thanks for your time, Trish.

Trish headed for the exit, listening as Matt did a soundoff behind her. Fallout had a star studded card, and Trish was excited to be a part of it. Moreover, she was excited at the prospect of having the opportunity to regain the women’s championship. She was the greatest of all time. She deserved to show that off at Wrestlemania.

This was EBWF’s off week of the month, where a PPV meant that a Tuesday night house show was in order. Having left Indianapolis, Trish caught a ride with Natalie to Moline, Illinois. The iWireless Center was sold out for the evening’s festivities, and once Trish learned that some cameras were rolling, she thought it might be the perfect time to gear up for Fallout.

’Cuz I’m a Boss!

Christy Hemme: Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome, from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Trish Stratus!

Trish proceeded to the ring and played up to the fans. Then she took a microphone from Christy.

Trish Stratus: I was informed last night after Warfare that Velvet Sky has accepted my challenge to face her in a rematch for the EBWF Women’s Championship. That just might be your first mistake, Velvet. I have been known to capitalize on the weaknesses of others. This is a perfect opportunity for me to insert myself into Wrestlemania, where I will go on to defend that title against Alexa Bliss, once again solidifying my spot at the top of the diva’s food pyramid. That is, if there’s anything left of Alexa. Seems Sasha is going to take care of that in due time. While it’s true that I didn’t cruise on into Wrestlemania as you predicted sweetheart, I am going to prove on Sunday night that you were just a little bump in the road, and your four week title reign will be as forgettable as that one guy you used to date, Ted DiBiase’s main event run, hell, your four week title run will be as memorable as forgetting to Find Felix. I will be the champion going into Wrestlemania, because when I see something I want, I take it. Not that you would know, but there is nothing like wearing double gold in EBWF. Nothing.

Here’s the problem with looking out for number one, Velvet. I think it’s really cute that you’re ready to stand up for yourself, but I think it might be too little, too late. You’ve proven your point. You’ve had your fun, and now it’s time to give these people the Wrestlemania match that they deserve. You’re a beautiful girl, Velvet. With a whole lot of talent. But you pale in comparison to Trish Stratus. See, the thing about you women in the locker room is that you’re all the same. You’ve all spent one point in your life, at one time or another, wanting to be me. You gave me the fight of my life at the Royal Rumble. We easily put on a match of the year contender, even though we will undoubtedly be overlooked because of the patriarchy under which we operate. I look forward to squaring off with you again, Velvet. This time however, it will be tragically, painfully different. I will steal from you the title that you covet and the Wrestlemania moment you’ve waited for your entire life.

I’ll do all of that because I’m not finished yet. I hear it all the time. Trish paved the way. Trish was the best. We wouldn’t be here without Trish. That’s all true, but don’t get it twisted. This is a long, long road and I’ve not travelled all of it yet. Until you’ve walked in these designer boots you couldn’t possibly understand how badly I want this match, this title, and that Wrestlemania match against Alexa. Say goodbye to your championship sweetheart, because come Monday morning, it will have a brand new nameplate, and Wrestlemania will have it’s women’s match.

Bossy hit once more, and Trish tossed the mic down on the mat, letting the crowd and music play her out as she left the arena.

OOC: So sorry this sucks :-)
