Carry on my Wayward Son

Post by Ian B »

Scene opens outside the Spirit Center, it appears to be fairly early. The camera pans from showing the arena to the car park where a single bus is parked. The doors of the bus open and Baron shambles off the vehicle with an overnight bag slung over his shoulder. Corbin is wearing dark trainers, light grey sweat pants and a cut off version of his own Lone Wolf tee. He has a grey beanie hat and dark blue Beats by Dre on his head. Corbin take a few steps before noticing the camera. He stops and takes off the headphones, placing the Beats around his neck. Corbin tilts his head like a dog and then glares at beyond the camera, a man with a sound boom takes a few steps into shot, Corbin looks him up and down.

Corbin – What the hell is this?

Boom guy – EBWF crew, here to get a few comments.

Corbin – Is this optional?

Boom guy – It kinda isn’t. You need to promote your upcoming match with Rob Van Dam.

Corbin – Is that right? Well, I’m certainly not in the mood to talk to some random crew guy. Especially not at this ungodly hour. Give me an hour and I might have some things I could say.

Corbin walks past the sound guy, the camera pans to follow him, the bounce of the camera suggests that the crew is trying to follow Corbin. Corbin walks faster but the crew keeps up. Corbin stops again.

Corbin – I strongly suggest you back off until I’ve had some coffee or this won’t end well for you.

Corbin walks towards the camera, the scene fades for just a frame. It reopens on Corbin sat at a table in a Starbucks, he looks more alert and a little more cooperative. Next to him is Renee Young and in front of them both two large Starbucks cups, he points at the cup next to him and give an ironic thumbs up. Corbin stares down the camera and barely acknowledges the fact that Young is beside him.

Corbin – Let’s get this over with

Young doesn’t lose her composure at all and carries on as if Corbin is being more cooperative.

Renee Young – Ladies and gentleman, I’m joined by one of EBWF’s newest acquisition, Kansas City's own Baron Corbin. Baron, it’s good to have you here.

Corbin – Good to have me here? I bet it is. I wouldn't exactly say it's great for Baron Corbin to be here in the EBWF, but it is great for EBWF as an organisation that I am here. The management are going to make a lot of money because they have brought in a premier talent such as myself, and truthfully? The contract I've signed ensures I will be taken care of. Unlike management I'm not so sure the roster, my so called colleagues will greet me with such open arms

Corbin thinks about this and seems pleased with the idea of being an annoyance.

Corbin – That’s okay with me, I'm not here to be liked, not here to kiss babies, kiss ass or do kissing of any description. I am here to get violent, to vent my frustrations, but most importantly I am here to make wads of cash.

Young - This week you're squaring off against Rob Van Dam. This has the potential to be a great match up. Your thoughts?

Corbin - Great match up? I beg to differ. If I get my way, and I usually get my way. By force. When I get my way Rob Van Dam is not going to know what hit him. Van Dam calls himself Mr Monday Night? He’s deluded, he isn't gonna wake up until next Monday night when I'm done. One of a kind? More like the first of many on my path of destruction. The whole damn show? If I was Rob Van Dam I would considering being the no damn show if he wants to keep his teeth. Let me explain something to the... less informed viewer, or consumer or whatever - I am an ultraviolent individual & I don't concern myself with the agenda of others. I am completely out for myself and I will step on & over anybody dumb enough to get in my way.

Corbin stops and for the first time looks at Renee Young.

Corbin – Dumb is a good word actually, when it comes to my opponent dumb may be the perfect word. I’m not going to lie and pretend I knew who he was before I came here, I’m also not going to pretend I care less about his big comeback. I am a violent man, we’ve covered that already. Unlike Van Dam however, I am not willing to quote unquote put my body on the line for the blood thirsty fans. In fact, my strategy going into Warfare involves getting hit as little as I can. I’m not naïve and I’m not as green as some out there would love to think. Rob Van Dam is a dangerous, unpredictable individual, I am somewhat predictable, somewhat dependable. Rob Van Dam, you can depend on getting a boot up your ass.

Young – As you mentioned Rob Van Dam has been away from EBWF for a number of years do you think ring rust is going to give you an advantage?

Corbin – Ring rust? I have no doubt that a has been like Van Dam would worry about something like that but no, ring rust is not what gives me the edge. I have the edge because I’m younger, a better athlete, I live a… how do I put this… healthier lifestyle. Van Dam is coming back hoping to relive his past glory, I’m at the start of my journey to success.

Corbin removes his beanie and brushes a hand through his hair.

Corbin – RVD, you think returning is wise? That going toe to toe with Baron Corbin is a viable option? I Dominated the gridiron in a former life, I am undoubtedly going to dominate a good for nothing hippy. Your card is marked Rob. You have been judged. Your fate is sealed. At Warfare you meet your maker. Very soon you will realise your mistake but by then it will be too late and you will face the End. Of. Days

Corbin stands up and grabs his coffee and walks away. As the scene fade you can hear him say I’m done
