OOC: Posting early as I'll be busy most of tomorrow. Best of luck to Nick and Jayme!
A month had passed since Charlotte made her EBWF debut, and although she'd been appearing regularly on house shows, Charlotte's match in Utah would be only her second televised match since signing for the EBWF at the beginning of May. With the focus on the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments, Charlotte hadn't been given much time to make an impression after losing to Sasha Banks. However last week, she'd been booked in a segment with Sasha, teasing a future match between the two of them, and this week, Charlotte was in a number one contenders match; the winner would go on to face Alexa Bliss for the Women's Title on Sunday, at the King of the Ring pay-per-view. It was a big opportunity, and not one Charlotte would take lightly.
As she arrived at the Vivint Smart Home Arena, Charlotte thought to herself how different things were in EBWF, without the presence of her father. Indeed, that had been Charlotte's main reason for leaving the WWE – she wanted to prove herself as more than just "Ric Flair's daughter", a fact WWE had hammered home to their audience week after week, with the Nature Boy having a hand in almost all of Charlotte's matches. Charlotte would never be able to escape her father's shadow completely... after all, her father had a legacy as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, and Charlotte was proud to be his daughter. But she didn't want her legacy to be his legacy. WWE didn't seem to get that; the EBWF did. In her debut match against Sasha Banks, EBWF hadn't mentioned Ric Flair once. It made a refreshing change.
After Charlotte had been to the locker room and changed into her ring gear, she went to the interview area, where she found Renee Young waiting for her. After a brief prep, the camera started rolling, and Renee began to speak.
Renee Young: Ladies and gentlemen, with me at this time is the second generation superstar, Charlotte, who will be competing later on tonight in a triple threat match to determine the new number one contender for the Women's Title. The winner will challenge Alexa Bliss for the gold at King of the Ring. Charlotte, what are your thoughts going into this match?
Charlotte: I'm very excited, Renee. When I joined the EBWF, I had my heart set on becoming Queen of the Ring. After all, I'm from the Queen's City; that's where I got my name. But being Queen of the Ring is just a stepping stone on the road to the Women's Title. If I win tonight, I'll be in the same position our Queen of the Ring will be in - one match away from being Women's Champion. The difference is, I won't have to wait two months to get my title match. I'll get it on Sunday.
Renee Young: You're going up against Torrie Wilson and Summer Rae, two established EBWF superstars. Torrie Wilson is a 10 time Women's Champion. Do you feel intimidated at all by your opponents?
Charlotte smirked.
Charlotte: I don't feel intimidated by anyone, Renee; I have no reason to. But that doesn't mean I'll take my opponents lightly either. Whenever people talk about the history of the EBWF, they always credit Chris Jericho as the EBWF's longest serving superstar. They forget that Torrie has been around almost as long as he has. She's a legend, and I have a great deal of respect for her. But I'm not in awe of her. You mentioned that Torrie is a 10 time Women's Champion, and that's impressive, but the last time she won the Women's Title was over four years ago. What has she done since then? She's become one of the also rans, someone who stays in the title picture but can't quite reach that level again. She's been surpassed by the likes of Sasha Banks, Alexa Bliss, and soon... me. As for Summer Rae, she's a three time Women's Tag Champion... but she hasn't been the Women's Champion, which tells you everything you need to know about Summer Rae. Summer is one of the Mean Girls, a reference that's almost as dated as quoting Friends. Summer Rae sees strength in numbers, because she knows she hasn't got what it takes on her own. Sasha Banks and Eva Marie won't be there to help her tonight; Torrie and I will make sure of that. This is a huge opportunity for me, and I won't let anyone cheat me out of it.
Renee Young: You mentioned Sasha Banks, who is one-half of the Women's Tag Champions, along with Summer Rae. It was Sasha who defeated you in the first round of the Queen of the Ring tournament, and you confronted her last week, telling her you hope she becomes the Women's Champion so you can beat her for the title. I guess being in this match has altered that plan?
Charlotte: It has... but for the better. Like I told Sasha last week, I took her to the limit, so I want to face her again because I know I can beat her. If the Women's Title is on the line in our rematch, that gives the match more significance. Sasha and I can take each other to another level. But I didn't think I'd get a chance to earn a title shot so soon in my EBWF career. I thought I'd have to bide my time, work my way up the ladder. Instead, here I am, one match away from the opportunity of a lifetime. Instead of beating Sasha Banks to win the Women's Title, I can beat her to retain it instead. The end result is still the same. I'll prove that I'm the better woman.
The determination could be heard in Charlotte's voice.
Renee Young: It seems your motivation going into this match is because you want another chance to face Sasha Banks... don't you think you're getting a little ahead of yourself? First, you have to beat Summer Rae and Torrie Wilson tonight, and then you have to defeat Alexa Bliss on Sunday. Besides, there's no guarantee that Sasha will win the Queen of the Ring tournament... Trish Stratus, Bayley and Blue Pants are all still in contention.
Charlotte: My motivation is to be the best women's superstar in the EBWF, Renee. It's not about Sasha, or anyone else. But Sasha beat me, so I need to beat her to prove I'm better. It's as simple as that. The same goes for Torrie, Summer, Trish, Bayley... I still can't believe there's a wrestler who actually calls herself Blue Pants, but hell, I'll beat her too. Send her back to the clearance rack. I'll beat them all, Renee. Because I'm Genetically Superior.
Charlotte walked past Renee, signalling the end of the interview.
