It was perhaps no surprise to see Kevin Owens in a bad mood as he made his way through the backstage area of the Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Alabama. Despite going through a period of trying to be the "nice guy" last year, Owens had quickly returned back to his old ways, and it hadn't taken long for the Canadian Prizefighter to reassert himself as, to put it lightly, a bit of an asshole. There was one thing that always cheered K.O. up without fail though – catering. So as Owens walked past catering, and the delicious scent of pepperoni pizza reached his nostrils, the man from Marieville couldn’t help but smile. As Owens was helping himself to a slice of pizza, however, he was interrupted by Matt Striker and a cameraman.
Matt Striker: Sorry Kevin, is now a bad time?
There were a lot of things that Kevin Owens hated, and dumb questions was one of them.
Kevin Owens: I have a mouthful of pizza right now, Matt. What do you think?
Matt Striker: I just wanted to ask you a few questions about your match tonight. If now's not a good time, I can come back later?
Kevin Owens: To be honest, Matt, there's never a good time to speak to you. But contractual obligation, they're a bitch... so I'll make you a deal. Let me finish this slice of pizza, we can get this over with, and then maybe I'll reward myself to another slice of pizza. Sound good?
Matt Striker: Umm... sure.
Matt tried to remain professional as he patiently waited for Owens to finish his pizza. He couldn't help but grimace, however, when Owens wiped his greasy hands on Striker's suit jacket. Knowing that Owens was hoping to get a rise out of him, Striker said nothing, and began the interview.
Matt Striker: Good evening, EBWF Universe! With me at this time is a man I'm sure you're all familiar with, Kevin Owens. Kevin, tonight you're going one on one with JTG, a relatively new superstar here in EB—
Owens cut Striker off before he could finish.
Kevin Owens: JTG? He's a loser. I'm not facing him, I'm wrestling Matt Sydal. I mean, Matt's a loser too – everyone named Matt is a loser, am I right? But he's less of a loser than JTG. Unlike JTG, Matt Sydal has actually accomplished things in the wrestling business.
Matt Striker: I'm sorry Kevin, I think there's been a misunderstanding. I have a copy of tonight's card right here... Cesaro is wrestling Matt Sydal. You're opening the show against JTG.
Striker pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket, listing the matches scheduled to take place on Warfare. Owens snatched it off Striker, then looked disgusted as he read it.
Kevin Owens: Is this some kind of sick joke? I'll show you what I think of this card, Matt...
Owens ripped the paper up into tiny little pieces, then threw it in the air.
Kevin Owens: Did you see my match with Cesaro last week, Matt? I reminded everyone that I am a fighter, and not someone to be messed with. That match might go down as a draw in the record books, but the truth is I had Cesaro beat. Those Swiss uppercuts of his are no match for my Canadian fists of fury, Matt. And the next time I cross paths with Cesaro, I'll make sure there's no doubt in anyone's mind which one of us is tougher. Tonight, though, JTG will be the victim of my fists of fury. I didn’t even know JTG was still wrestling, Matt. How did he secure a contract in EBWF? Does he have dirt on Stone Cold Steve Austin or something? You know what, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that once again, I feel disrespected. It's frustrating, and JTG is going to feel that frustration tonight. Then come Sunday at the Royal Rumble, Matt Sydal, Cesaro and all of the 29 superstars who are unfortunate enough to enter the Rumble with me will realise that I am the Prizefighter, fighting for the ultimate prize... and no one is going to stand in my way.
Owens grabbed another slice of pizza and walked away from Striker, pushing the cameraman to one side as he did so.
