SUNDAY APRIL 30 2017 – EBWF AFTERMATH – BANKERS LIFE FIELDHOUSE – INDIANAPOLIS; INDIANA
It was the first pay-per-view since the record-breaking WrestleMania and despite edging out to PJ Black in their brilliant World Championship main event, Samoa Joe found himself within touching distance of another crack at the biggest prize the company had to offer. The final hurdle he had to overcome, though, was Alex Riley. Fans that tuned into programming for a few weeks now knew that as talented as Riley is, he’s now aligned himself with the Prime Time Players, while still having The Miz by his side – meaning the threat was bigger than ever. Still, those are the odds Joe preferred and was looking forward to not only defeating Riley, but then getting a great seat backstage to watch PJ Black defend his title against Randy Orton.
The scene opened up in the backstage area of the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. It was in a dark-ish corner somewhere where Samoa Joe could be seen in his wrestling attire, his towel over his head as he started to shadow box, preparing for his upcoming clash later in the evening. The shadow boxing then turned into Joe punching a production box, hitting it harder and harder before delivering one final blow and then resting both of his hands on it, and speaking out.
Samoa Joe: ‘Where has Samoa Joe been?’
Joe started to laugh as he smacked the production box again.
Samoa Joe: That’s a question that’s been asked of me far too many times. Since WrestleMania, where has Samoa Joe been? I won’t lie, my mission to leave a wreck in my trails hit a little stumbling block at WrestleMania when…ha…when PJ Black pinned me to retain the EBWF World Championship. It still makes me laugh saying that. I’ve not been at home crying or questioning my place in this company, though. PJ Black stole that victory from me and I’m not even upset about that because even he knows that at any given moment, that championship would have been mine. He’s going to be a nervous wreck tonight, because he’ll be praying to every god imaginable that somehow Alex Riley defeats me. He’ll do that because he doesn’t want a match with me again, he knows that’s a thrill that’s too exhilarating even for him. Then when his prayers fall on deaf ears, he’ll be too worn out to even successfully retain his gold tonight so I guess my one message to the main event tonight is…I’ll see you soon, Randy.
Fans inside the arena cheered at that part of the segment, as they realised that a dream match between Samoa Joe and Randy Orton could be a genuine possibility. Joe then looked into the camera again in his usual, snarling manner.
Samoa Joe: Even if Randy does win, my business with PJ isn’t done because sooner or later, we are going to meet again. This time, there won’t be any lapses in concentration, no wasting time, no excuses. When I get the opportunity, I am making damn well sure that with these hands I am going to personally make sure he never enters title contention again. But before that, I have other business to take care of. Alex. Riley. This isn’t just any ordinary match, though, oh no, this is a match where that son of a bitch isn’t going to go at it alone because he knows it’ll take four of them to stop me tonight. That’s fine, I prefer it like that when they think they stand a chance and then they don’t know how to react when they realise each and every one of them tried to bring me down and then they failed, how are they going to show their faces here again. I mean, I know nobody really takes them seriously in the first place because they’re a bunch of jackasses you expect to see in a Seth Rogen comedy, but if they decide to step in then it’ll the worst collective decision of their careers, period.
Joe then wiped his head with his towel as he slowly started to walk away, but the cameras followed him as he slowly walked around the backstage area warming himself up for his match.
Samoa Joe: Why don’t we start with The Miz? The man that had it all going for him and lost a match to Riley before the roles reversed. I actually used to like the guy, that was until I came here and realised what sort of coward he is, the respect I had for him once is now gone the second he decided against turning his back on Riley. He could have stabbed him in the back to go at it alone, but no. It’s a shame, because this time last year if this match was happening, The Miz is somebody I’d keep an eye on as somebody who could genuinely cost me this match. He’s gone from World Champion to chief ass-kisser, so it’s a shame this fall from grace is going to look bad on you when I choke you out and your boys can do nothing about that, bro.
Joe continued walked before stopping to do some stretches, still talking to the camera.
Samoa Joe: Then…ah…we have the two new additions to the club. Darren Young and Titus O’Neil, two irrelevant superstars that made a surprise debut and remained irrelevant ever since. Look, I can stay here until my match begins and run these two assholes into the ground, but I think their resumes speak for themselves. Darren Young is a nobody, and unfortunately for him the second he looks in my direction I’m going to make sure he regrets it instantly. Then there’s Titus, the big, bad man who I’m guessing is the muscle in the club? It’s a decent choice, but it’s a shame I’m going to have to pummel him and his boy back into mediocrity and end their 15 minutes fame before they get carried away and the next thing we know, they’re getting tag team championship matches. I mean, it’s all merry right now because they think they’re at the top of the world but nobody cared about them before, and nobody will care about them in the future. They’re here to make up the numbers, they can’t make an impact like me if they were in the main event every week for an entire year. I have no issues if they’re at ringside, I’m sure the premiere athlete that is Alex Riley needs his cheerleaders to cheer him to victory and I’m okay with that, I really am. But…and I’m looking at you Titus because I don’t think the other one has it in him, if you decide to try and change the course of this match then I will make sure that next week you’re not on Warfare, but you’re at home in a wheelchair looking up at your trophy cabinet at the 15 dad of the year awards while your kids feed you with a spoon, asking you when you can get back to work and you have to lay them down gently. When Warfare comes on and THIS face is on the screen, then you point and tell your boys that HE is the man that DESTROYED my career and HE is the reason I can’t compete, eat, or walk. So…the decision is yours and of course, then we get to the man himself – Alex Riley.
Joe walked through a crowd of people in the backstage area, looking at them all as they all stopped their conversations as he smiled, knowing he struck fear in them.
Samoa Joe: So, you’re the orchestrator behind this whole thing? I don’t get it, why? Why do you always do this, you and The Miz? Word gets around, when I was competing elsewhere I’m pretty sure you two had some other guys by your side, and then a year before that you had other guys by your side, you see where I’m going with this? This is an overused trend, and the process has always been the same and you ALWAYS fail as a team and then you always fail as an individual. Name me one team that’s broken that cycle, you’re all the same – worthless. Collectively getting together because you know that I could take you all on one on one and defeat you all and I could do the same if it was four on one. What this tells me is that Alex Riley is an insecure, scared little individual that seeks the approval of those around him. He needs to be told he’s good, that he’s worth something because if you strip everything away from him he’s just another talentless jerk-off that will be at the top of the list that would be future endeavoured when the company needs to cut some costs. Alex Riley recruits nobodies to make himself feel better. I mean, imagine if this skunk recruited me to his little club? How would he be able to shine when I’m there? When all eyes are on me, when people are paying money to see the destroyer of the group do just that. Why would anybody pay to see a generic failed football star who acts like the jock of the locker room but would be the first to run out when a fight breaks out? There’s a reason he recruits these people and it’s because he needs to wake up feeling good about himself. I don’t seek approval from anybody. I alone am better than this varsity club and I’ll prove it in a few moments when I skin their leader right in front of their eyes. You want to know why people like Alex Riley fail? It’s because they’re not born to do this. They’re led to believe that that they’ve been put on this planet so they can entertain but at the end of the day, they’re like cattle, they’re raised for a purpose. Alex, your purpose in life isn’t to pretend to be a jock people are afraid of. Your purpose in life is to be fed to beasts like me because you’re not on my level and nothing can change that.
Joe snarled into the camera again as he reached gorilla position, and his theme music started to hit the PA system, signalling the start of his match as he intended on destroying Alex Riley.
