Backstage Heat for John Cena

Word circulating among the wrestling news sites is that the decision to feature Intercontinental Champion, John Cena on the newest video game to come out of the media monster EBWF, appropriately named EBWF '14, has garnered some very real heat for the Champ backstage with some of his colleagues.
Recent examination of the EBWF Twitter feed would seemingly support these claims with some claiming there was a bias to have a “face” on the cover for reliability reasons and others speculating that Dean Ambrose was originally considered for the cover. Some may have shrugged these claims off however even in the course of writing this piece comments were posted by notorious EBWF theorist Paul Heyman when he tweeted the following:
HeymanHustle: Before the cenation jumps at me for talking about @J.Cena, I have nothing against him. Just saying releasing the cover now was a bad marketing decision. Or did you think @Trent? was gonna win?

HeymanHustle: Way to spoil KOTR results @EBWF, you might as well could've released the EBWF game and put @J.Cena in the cover, throne and all. #SpoilerCenaWins

This was further evidenced at a recent house show when Cena seemed the victim of a very real series of hard punches and stiff jabs at the hands of his opponent, the returning Sean Waltman, more commonly known as Syxx . Cena later showed up at a scheduled appearance seemingly in good spirits but sporting a black eye, further suggesting some of those punches were in fact meant to be felt for more than one night.
Attempts to contact John Cena were initially unsuccessful however Cena himself released this statement to the press a day later:
“The EBWF family is amazing but it is still like any other family. You protect your sisters, you stay loyal to your own, you watch out for Uncle Fred cause he’s just weird and smells like mothballs and potential inappropriateness, and you simply can’t always like your brother. But while you might not always see eye to eye with him, you do always try to respect him. This is a video game. Let’s keep that in perspective. I was honored to be chosen to be on the cover; but at the end of the day it is still a video game and with the continued and growing success of this company there will be many more to come in the future. People that want to continue to suggest or believe it means anything more than what it is, I can’t change that. But if you want to think like that then maybe you should also consider that I was chosen not because of an impending win. Who knows, maybe this was my 'consolation prize.' That way of thinking is a coin with two faces.
People are also saying a recent house show match I had against Syxx was more than just that, more than a wrestling match. I would like to make it clear that there were no botched spots, no in-ring errors, leaks in the fourth wall, or animosity going on that night. So if people think they saw something that wasn’t there, that just means Sean and I did our jobs, and we did them well. As for any injuries, all that happened was clumsy me decided to get a closer look at a turnbuckle and we all know I don’t half ass anything. Apparently to my detriment. I’m just fine, it’s only a shiner and a chipped tooth, and obviously I will not be missing one second of time on this leg of the tour. That said, I’m sure I’m gonna really hate the SOB that ends up on EBWF’15.”
Despite Cena’s words of denial and making light of the situation we have to continue to wonder if Cena, one of the company’s more prominent ambassadors, is simply saving face on behalf of his employer. Time and time again we’ve seen that the best way to interpret tweets and rumors that leave the entertainment powerhouse, is to simply read between the lines. And we certainly plan to keep on reading.
