Unfortunately Daniel Bryan was not in the running to win the King of the Ring tournament anymore after losing to Jay Briscoe. Because of that one loss he would not be appearing on the King of the Ring card, even though he defeated the current Breakout Champion. However all was not lost for the submission specialist as he was set to face the Long Island Iced Z, Zack Ryder on a special edition of Saturday Night's Main Event. Daniel Bryan was backstage at the Sprint Centre, the venue for Saturday Night's Main Event and also the King of the Ring PPV. While Daniel was walking around backstage, Scott Stanford appeared with a camera man behind him, but instead of it being an official EBWF crew member with a proper camera, it was a middle aged man in a Zack Ryder T-shirt with a small Sony handheld camera.
Scott Stanford: Daniel Bryan! Do you mind if I ask you a few questions?
Daniel saw Scott and the "Camera man" and was a bit puzzled but then waved off his confusion to accept the request.
Daniel Bryan: Sure.
Scott Stanford: Tonight you're set to go one on one with the Long Island Iced Z, the former Tag Team Champion, Zack Division Champion and Internet Champion, Zack Ryder. How do you plan on defeating someone with such an impressive history?
Daniel Bryan didn't answer immediately and stared blankly at Stanford, making him extremely uncomfortable.
Daniel Bryan: Zack Division? Long Island Iced Z? Internet Champion? Those aren't real accolades, winning World Championships are real accolades. Winning the King of the Ring is a real accolade. Zack Ryder is another "superstar" that thinks he can wrestle. Fist pumping and saying catchphrases every minute isn't what makes a wrestler. I WRESTLED in Mexico, Japan, Europe, Canada and here in America. While you fist pump, I perform actual wrestling manoeuvres like hammer locks, guillotines, armbars, and choke holds. I know more wrestling manoeuvres than you could even contemplate.
Scott Stanford: Zack Ryder may not be as proficient in submissions as you are Daniel, but he has more heart than many superstars on the roster.
Daniel Bryan: Heart will only get you so far, but when your opponent has locked in a submission on you and there is only so much pain you can take before your bones break, having heart can do more damage than thinking rationally. Tonight it'll come down to that with Zack Ryder, I'll lock the Lebell Lock on him and leave him with no other option than to tap out. If he has too much heart to not tap out, I'll separate his shoulder and put him out of action. Tap or Snap, those are anyone's options.
Scott Stanford: How does it feel to have been knocked out of the King of the Ring tournament by Jay Briscoe?
Daniel Bryan: It stings a little, and I'm disappointed with my performance. But at the same time, Jay Briscoe is the most deserving of the final 4, and if he wins it will mean big things for him.
Scott Stanford: Not only have you had to deal with your King of the Ring opponents in the last month, you've also had to deal with Ted DiBiase as well. Will there be a match between you two at some point in the future?
Daniel Bryan: I can only hope so, the reason why DiBiase doesn't like me is simply because with my return to EBWF he needs to push himself more. He can't do that and because of that he's going back down and fading into obscurity. I'm not a bad guy, Scott. If anything I'm doing DiBiase a service by beating some sense into him.
Scott Stanford: And how is that?
Daniel Bryan: It's simple. I'm lighting the fire in him that he needs to have lit. I'm trying to push him and make him reach his potential. He won't see it that way, he'll see it as me trying to take his place on the roster. Regardless of my interactions with Ted DiBiase, my main goal is to win championships. Tonight I'm going to beat Zack Ryder and I'm going to push my case for a championship match. I know that Jericho is watching everyone and with him making a big announcement tomorrow night at the King of the Ring PPV, I want to hear that Daniel Bryan is receiving a title shot as part of his announcement.
Scott Stanford: Thanks for your time Daniel.
Scott and his camera man left the scene as Daniel quietly prepared for his match tonight.
