OOC: Apologies for the poor showing here. Got called into work yesterday and today so had less time than I thought to complete this. Good luck to everyone else and I hope to read some great RPs.
Daniel Bryan had returned to winning ways leading up to Christmas Eve of Destruction. After bowing out of the Path to Glory Tournament, which was later abandoned, Daniel defeated Heath Slater and Christian to earn the right to face Leo Kruger for the Breakout Championship. Leo Kruger had been on a roll since capturing the Breakout Championship, defeating all challengers and holding the championship for most of the year. Christmas Eve of Destruction was the one night of the year where every match was extreme. Daniel Bryan was facing Leo Kruger in a ladder match. Technical skills meant for very little. The first person to grab the title hanging high above the ring would be champion.
Daniel Bryan was standing with Renee Young at the interview set. Just before his match he was set to give his thoughts on the match.
Renee Young: With me at this time is Daniel Bryan who is set to challenge Leo Kruger for the Breakout Championship. You'll be facing Kruger in a ladder match. How has your preparation had to change for this match?
Daniel Bryan: With a ladder match there isn't really a set strategy. Whoever grabs that title becomes champion.
Renee Young: Leo Kruger has held the Breakout Championship for most of 2013, having defeated all challengers to date. How will you look to bring an end to his lengthy reign?
Daniel Bryan: Leo Kruger has held the title for long time and now there's the chance that he's gotten complacent. One mistake is all that it will take for him to lose the championship. He's faced a lot of wrestlers during his reign, but he hasn't faced someone like me. If he makes any mistake I'll capitalise on it.
Renee Young: You've been in many different types of matches. How is this different from a standard match?
Daniel Bryan: There are no rules in a ladder match. Weapons are allowed, there are no pinfalls and no submissions. Instead of aiming for the submission I have to try and incapacitate my opponent long enough to set up a ladder, climb it and retrieve the championship from above the ring. That in itself is a difficult task, but with enough focus on the job ahead I know I can prevail and leave Indianapolis as champion.
Renee Young: After being knocked out of the Path to Glory Tournament, you've recaptured your form. Tonight there will be a Path to Glory Invitational where any wrestler on the roster can enter with the chance to become Path to Glory Champion. Will you be competing in the match after your Breakout Championship match?
Daniel Bryan: While it would be amazing to win two championships in one night, I have been preparing only for the Ladder match tonight. To enter a hardcore match without any preparation would not be smart. I'll wait and keep performing well and I'll receive a shot in the future at the Path to Glory Championship or even the World Championship. But tonight I've got the opportunity to win the Breakout Championship, and I'm not going to let that opportunity pass me by.
Daniel walked off the interview set and down the hall of the backstage area. He was physically and mentally prepared for this match. He had seen footage of Kruger, but the stipulation made it difficult to assess his strengths and weaknesses. He would find out later on if he had done enough work to defeat the Breakout Champion and end his reign once and for all.
