“Jesus Christ, Mick! What are you doing here like this?” The producer asks as he rushes forward to help support Foley before he falls over again.
“Ya know Johnny… I’m gonna call you Johnny because I don’t know your name and… It doesn’t matter what your name is!” Mick shouts out with a laugh, stumbling forward and leaning against the poor producer.
“Let’s get you to the showers and sobered up a bit. You can’t be representing the EBWF looking like this.”
“Why not Johnny? All this place does is chew you up and spit you out just like all the other wrestling companies out there. They take you in to use your name but they don’t give a damn about you at all, do they Johnny? Hell no they don’t! Look at me Johnny… They know I’m too old to still be doing this, they know that I lost everything to come back into this business. I lost my wife, my kids, my sanity. What more do they want from me, Johnny? How much do they expect to take from me this time? Well you know what, this Mick Foley isn’t going to be their little golden boy. Nope, not this time, Johnny. This time Mick Foley is in it for himself. He’s here to chew ass and take gum… and he’s all out of Double Bubble…”
Mick laughs again as they move down the hall and into a locker room. The producer leans Mick against the wall in the shower stall and turns on the water, letting the cold water wash over him.
“Now you stay here till you come to your senses, Mick. I’m going to see if I can go find one of the docs to take a look at you.”
“Ok Johnny… Quest away!” Mick says with another laugh as he slides down the wall in the shower, sitting on the floor and rocking back and forth beneath the cold water.
A few hours later Mick is sitting up in a chair in the locker room looking as put together as he can be, a producer poking her head in through the door.
“Mick, the ESPN affiliate is here to interview you for their article.”
Mick clears his throat and gives her a nod, waving for him to come in. The man appears and takes a seat across from Foley, pulling out a tape recorder and pressing record.
“First off, let me thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to talk with me, Mick. I’m sure there is plenty on your mind heading into the pay-per-view, where you will be facing Roman Reigns for the number one contender spot for the Breakout Championship.”
“Well uh, yes that’s correct, Roman and I are set to face off in that ring yet again.”
“How do you feel going into this match, considering the ups and downs you’ve already been faced with upon entering the EBWF?”
“You know, I’m feeling pretty good about this one. I’ve faced Roman here before and unless he is able to somehow light a fire under himself, I think the outcome is going to be drastically in my favor.”
“Are you saying that you doubt his ability in the ring?”
“I’m saying that if Roman Reigns shows up for a fight he better get ready for exactly that. I don’t know where his head is at right now but it needs to be focused on that ring, on our match, and the fact that he is stepping into the ring with a living legend.”
“That brings up a good point, being that you are a legend, do you think that your age and experience will end up helping or hindering you as you make this new run in the EBWF?”
“My career has been very public and everyone knows that I am not what would be considered a ’traditional’ or even ’technical’ kind of guy in that ring. I’ve kind of made a name for myself by pushing that envelope and testing those boundaries of what the human body is capable of. So with that being said, the talent here in the EBWF know to expect the unexpected when they step into the ring with me which only means that I will have to pull out even more unexpected things from one match to the next. I think if I can keep them guessing and keep them on their toes then I might be able to pull out a rather successful career within the company.”
“So going back to your match for the moment, you are competing for the number one contender spot for the Breakout Title. What does that mean to you? And what does it mean to you that it has slipped through your fingers already?”
“Wow, well you know, holding any title is always an honor and the Breakout Title is something that every new talent to EBWF strives to reach for. It shows that you’re able to bring it all out there and leave it all out there week in and week out. It propels your career forward and helps you step up from that lower card spot to a mid-carder and everyone wants to prove they have what it takes to eventually become a main event superstar. Our current Breakout Title holder, Damien Sandow… You know I think it was mostly luck that he happened to end up with it and I know that Roman was the last to be eliminated in that gauntlet match and I would think that he has something to prove here this week, but then again we both do. So I think it will come down to who wants it more and right now I can tell you that I am not going to let anything come between me and my shot for the Breakout Title.”
“Thank you for your time, Mick, I know we are all looking forward to the pay-per-view.”
“Hey, my pleasure.” Mick smiles and stands as the reporter stands as well. The two men shake hands and the reporter leaves.
