Sami Zayn vs. Syxx

With a new World Champion crowned in the business, there was a different buzz in the air as all of the EBWF superstars seemed more determined to succeed, most of all the independent stars who were managing to cut it at the big stage such as the EBWF and one of those was Sami Zayn. His fan base in the company quickly grew as each week passed and he was looking to bounce back from his Survivor Series team defeat with a victory over the high-flying daredevil that was Justin Gabriel. The two superstars always worked great in the ring and they showed that in the Survivor Series match, but Sami knew that deep down even though he was performing to a high standard, he knew he could perform better and be on the lips of even more fans. His match on Warfare against Justin Gabriel was good, but nothing special. He hit the Helluva Kick on Justin for the victory before celebrating with his Intercontinental Championship, something he had yet to defend as starting to grow a little restless. He exited the ring and met with the fans who were dancing along to World’s Apart which was blasting the PA system as Christy Hemme announced him as the victor as Warfare continued. He continued to walk backstage as he picked up a bottle of water with his Intercontinental Championship in his hand, he walked past his locker room and towards the offices before stopping and popping his head through Stephanie McMahon’s door.
SAMI ZAYN
You wanted to see me?
STEPHANIE MCMAHON
Ah yes Sami, come in, have a seat.
Sami nodded his head and walked in, still sweating from his match which was obviously a good sign before he took a seat and continued to drink his water as Stephanie closed the file she was observing and folding her arms on the table and talking to the champ.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON
Impressive performance out there tonight.
SAMI ZAYN
You’ve got to be kidding me, right?
STEPHANIE MCMAHON
What makes you say that? I was serious, the fans seemed to enjoy that match, and you and Justin always tear the house down in the ring.
SAMI ZAYN
Nothing to do with Justin, it’s just…it’s not even the match tonight, the last few weeks have just felt a little empty, y’know?
STEPHANIE MCMAHON
And what do you think we should do to change that?
SAMI ZAYN
I’m not sure Steph, I mean I am so pleased you guys see me fit enough to hold this Intercontinental Championship but right now I feel like I am adding nothing to it, like I’m adding nothing to this company apart from putting on a smile or two, I just need firing up I guess, something to work for.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON
Well, Syxx is a better superstar than you, we know that.
SAMI ZAYN
Excuse me?
STEPHANIE MCMAHON
You heard me, we all think Syxx is actually a better superstar than you, he’s a bigger draw, he’s a much bigger name than you, more experienced.
SAMI ZAYN
So why did you take this championship off of him and pin it on me if you all love him so much?
STEPHANIE MCMAHON
I didn’t make that call, but I did hear that they’re planning on stripping you off the title and handing it back to him because he did add value to it, as you said.
SAMI ZAYN
Look I know you think you know a lot about wrestling and all but let me tell you where you’re wrong, firstly there’s a reason I am sitting here dripping with sweat from my match and you’re sat there behind a desk like you always have. Secondly, there’s a reason I am booked on every single episode of Warfare and I am told to compete on every single house show, not to make the fans happy because even though Syxx might had some value to the championship because of the big names he has been inside the ring with, I know I add some value to the company itself. The first time around I was booked to cost myself the match and you had Syxx steal the win, the second time round I won fair and square, I deserve this championship more than he does because unlike him I do everything I can to make myself and this company a better place.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON
And there it is.
SAMI ZAYN
There’s what?
STEPHANIE MCMAHON
That little nudge that you needed to get it all out, look we have faith in you as a champion and we know you can be a great Intercontinental Champion too, I mean look at your friend Solomon, and he’s doing great for himself so just think of the rewards to follow.
SAMI ZAYN
I’m happy for him, but it’s not the same thing. I know a lot of champions won’t say this, but I need a match, I NEED to defend my Intercontinental Championship and right now the ONLY thing that can fire me up is by giving me my first title defence…and the Christmas Eve of Destruction pay-per-view. It needs to be different, brutal and it needs to add value to me and my development AND the Intercontinental Championship, I need that assurance that I am going in the right direction and joining this company was a good choice.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON
Sami, this is probably the most success you have had in any company, this is the big leagues and I admire that confidence and that attitude, you want to compete and defend your championship on our most brutal event of the year? You’ve got it, and you know what; prove everyone wrong and take out Syxx once and for all and prove to the world that Sami Zayn is better than he is, or ever was.
SAMI ZAYN
Thank you, what kind of stipulations are still available? I don’t want anything normal, something…something bizarre and different, I want to close the Syxx chapter once and for all, you’re right.
STEPHANIE MCMAHON
Well…the last stipulation we handed out was the Sadistic Madness match between Justin and Dean, which means you and Syxx will compete in…an Electrified Cage match. It’s now official, I will let Syxx know and then we will have the details ironed out on whether you will or won’t be keeping hold of that championship.
SAMI ZAYN
I appreciate it, trust me I will not let you down.
Stephanie smiled at Sami as he got up from his seat and walked out of her office with his Intercontinental Championship, with his Christmas Eve of Destruction match with Syxx confirmed, hoping he could defeat him and end that doubt over who is the better man once and for all.

Wednesday 24th December 2014 – Christmas Eve of Destruction – Sprint Center – Kansas City; Missouri
World’s Apart hit the PA system and it was time for the Electrified Cage match for the Intercontinental Championship. The fans all got out of their seats to dance along to Sami Zayn’s theme music and the 'Ole!' chants broke out instantly as he appeared on stage with a Christmas hat, embracing the Christmas spirit with his Intercontinental Championship around his waist, Christy Hemme had already announced the rules of the match before introducing Sami Zayn to the fans. He danced all the way down the ramp before stopping at the bottom to stare at the cage structure, he ran his fingers through it before the referee told him to get through the door and he obliged. He got inside the ring with a microphone and placed his Intercontinental Championship over his shoulder, nodding his head to his music as he decided to cut his own music off before Syxx could come out to the ring.
SAMI ZAYN
Yeah…this is a lot more intimidating than I thought it would be. My first cage match and you know the EBWF they don’t do things by half, I just need to make sure my body stays away from the cage and it should be fine, unlikely but I think I should stay optimistic. Tonight, I hope that this back and forth argument over who the better man is should end. Look, I know that I cost myself the first match against Syxx, ask him yourself I was THIS close to defeating him before my own stupid mistake cost me the chance to capture the championship on my first attempt but…I will admit Syxx walked out the winner which ultimately means he was the better man whether I liked it or not. But unlike other contenders I didn’t rest on my backside, I fought and fought and fought, to eventually get to a number one contenders match and then I finally got the opportunity to right my wrong and I defeated Syxx for the championship and since then I am holding this championship, that’s all…I’ve been holding it. Right from the very beginning I said if I was to ever capture a championship here in this company, I want to be a fighting champion right off the bat and even though I’ve been here competing week after week, tonight you will see my first title defence. We all saw what happened with Syxx after I defeated him, I actually can’t count how many times he has actually appeared, that’s the difference between me and him, is that even though I get my ass kicked time and time again I won’t ever let it keep me down and I’ll come back fighting, Syxx…when he loses he stays down and won’t come back until there’s nobody else left to face. I know that you people want a champion who turns up every night, someone who will put their body on the line for the sake of winning a match, but for me this is my life and I am putting my life on the line in this ring because I need to defeat Syxx for the final time to ensure that I am worthy of holding this Intercontinental Champion. If Syxx does pull one out of the bag, well…I am man enough to admit I was good enough to capture this title, but never great enough to hold on to it. But if I do defeat him, then you can bet your ass I will do whatever it takes to hold on to this for as long as I can, defend it any time I need to and go down as one of the best fighting Intercontinental Champions this business has ever seen.
Sami dropped the microphone as he issued an emotional statement to the EBWF Universe, acknowledging that he hasn’t been the greatest of champions but desperately wants it to start tonight with another victory against Syxx.
