Defense Mechanisms.

Go fuck your mother. I believe it was Sigmund Freud who first said that without getting into trouble. He also said life wasn’t easy… He talked about the ego, like it was some attention hungry bitch who sat in the center of the room, wanting all the spotlight for itself… Or something along those lines. When Trent read about Freud, he wondered if Freud met Paul London somewhere in time and learned about EBWF, basing his famous psychoanalytic theories on the bullshit superstars who didn’t suck up to the board of directos have to put up with day in and out

Anyway, in order to fight the ego, some subconscious mechanism of defense were deployed by the brain to ward off unpleasant feelings, to make everything more pleasant for the individual subject of that attention seeking piece of crap.

Former world champion, former video game universal world champion and current Thrillseeker protége Trent, was no different from any other person under pressure. His career has taken a couple of tumbles as of late, and needed straightening. Trent’s brain was working nonstop to make every crappy day in a company where the boss refused to put him where he belonged just to favor his buddy-buddies. Accompany me as we dwell into the mind of a man whose recent failures have driven his sanity to the very, very edge…

Renee Young: Trent?? Do you follow me?

Trent’s super ego: Do I follow you? You bet that cute little ass I follow you alright… Everytime your golden locks and cute bubble butt walk around I make sure I follow. Every. Single. Move. I wonder how long til Ikeda beds you like the horny dog he is.

Trent: Absolutely Renee. What was the question?

Lately Trent often found himself drifting off… A healthy way to escape the unsatisfying reality that was his current situation. Trent was stuck in one of these taped promos that were supposed to make fans interested in his match and his ‘character’. Sure, kids these days would rather a rabies shot than buying a Trent shirt, for example.

Renee Young: I just asked if you feel that becoming number one contender for the Intercontinental Championship would make up for the recent shots you haven’t been able to capitalize at the Royal Rumble?

Trent’s Super ego: Why would a title which has been tarnished to no end be better than winning the rumble? You know what would make up for me failing to capitalise those shots? You getting on your knees and…

Trent: Yes, winning the royal rumble slipped through my fingers… But there’s no time to cry over spilled milk! The Intercontinental championship is...

Trent’s Super ego: A JOKE OF A BELT, BULLSHIT CRAP BELT WHO HAS BEEN A FILLER TITLE FOR MONTHS!

Trent: A title with history, sure it hasn’t lived up to it’s expectation but we’ve seen some memorable Intercontinental champions through history...

Trent’s Super ego: STUPID TOAD FACE MIZ, IDIOTIC MR. ANDERSON, AND THAT DRUNKEN LOSER SYXX!

Trent: … Many of them who went on to become World Champions after absolutely dominating the belt. These days, wrestlers seem to be looking to hold the belts for as little as possible, aiming for the World Title. Sure, being World champion is the ultimate goal, but everyone seems to neglect other title belts, seeing them as stepping stones. Unlike them, I aim to make every single moment of my career memorable…

Repression is the mechanism of defense employed by the ego to maintain disturbing thoughts of becoming conscious. Unluckily, Repression is not a very effective mechanism as it involves disturbing wishes, ideas or memories into the unconscious, where despite being hidden, they create anxiety.

Renee Young: So, how do you feel about your opponents, Adam Rose and Ted DiBiase?

Trent’s Super ego: How do you think I feel about being stood with a couple of losers, while other losers stand above me! How do you think I feel about blowing chance after chance? How do you think I feel about being a total loser?

Trent: Ted DiBiase and Adam Rose come from a similar place than I do… We all failed to win the Rumble, we all wanted that main event ticket to WrestleMania… Now we just got kicked out of the party, that doesn’t mean I can’t barge right back inside… I got everything I need to be there, everything but the boss’ good graces. Simply put, Wes Ikeda hates me. We Ikeda fears what I would do if the EBWF World Title fell on my lap, he fears he might have to create another title belt for his buddies because if I ever became World Champion, the only way I would drop the belt would be after dropping dead. Wes wants me away from the World title picture, and this is his best idea… Giving me another title. Well, he’s going to be extremely pissed the moment I destroy Ted DiBiase and Adam Rose! He will be pretty disappointed when I become number one contender, but you know what else? He will be even more disappointed when I turn out to be a bigger Intercontinental Champion than Macho Man and Ultimate Warrior, COMBINED! Now, if you don’t have any more questions, I have plenty of important matters to attend!

Projection, the mechanism of defense where one’s own unacceptable thoughts, feelings and motives are attributed to another person.

Trent left Renee in the set where he was being interviewed, the camera followed him as he walked through the halls. Eventually, Trent came across as a man dressed with a bunch of cheap party props, color beads, feathers, colorful clothes and a hat. Trent clenched his fist and wasted no time in putting his knuckles right across the man’s Jaw. Trent mounted the downed man and continued to punish him with rights and lefts, the man tried to fight back to no avail… Soon, the attire of the man turned less colorful and more monochromatic, red to be specific.

Trent: Wanna party? I’ll show you how to party!

Trent continued punching the man, blood staining his knuckles and fingers as EBWF roadies and security members broke them apart.

Trent: I am better than Adam Rose! I am better than anyone in this stupid locker room! I am better than Ted DiBiase! Where is that ####er Virgil! I'll kick his ass too!

Displacement is the mechanism by which one satisfies an impulse with a substitute person or object.

Trent broke away from the crew members holding him from the arms, while EMTs checked on the man dressed in colorful clothing. Trent took a 180 degree turn to escape the scene, eventually running into a kid. He was clad in a cyan “Hustle, Loyalty and Respect” Shirt who was a couple of sizes bigger than the kid, matching armbands, a cap and a medallion, the kid looked at Trent with some demeanor.

Kid: I saw what you did to that innocent guy. I really hope John Cena puts you in your place!

The kid stuck his tongue out at Trent. Trent ran a hand along his black locks of hair, trying to ignore the kid.

Kid: In fact, I hope Ted and Rose beat you tonight! You’re not good! I bet even my dad could kick your ass!

Trent: Oh yeah? My dad could kick your dad’s ass!

Kid: Nah-uh.

Trent: You bet! Wait a minute, why would I need my dad to kick your dad’s ass? I could kick your dad’s ass!

Kid: No, you couldn’t! Cos he has a gun! He will shoot you and you will die!

Trent: I always wear a bullet proof vest!

Kid: He will shoot you in the head!

Trent: I wear an invisible bullet proof helmet!

Kid: No you don’t!

Trent: Did too!

Kid: Did not!

Trent: Did too!

Trent: Listen kid, I don’t have all day to do this! I have a match to win! I am going to chip one of DiBiase’s Teeth! Then I am going to plant Adam Rose right in the center of the ring with a Crunchy! And my dad can totally kick your dad’s! NEENER NEENER!

Kid: No you don’t cos…

Trent covered his ears.

Trent: LALALALALALALA CAN’T HEAR YOU!

Kid: You can’t bea…

Trent: LALALALALALA CAN’T HEAR YOU!

Trent walked away letting the young Cenation fan with watery eyes as the scene faded to black.

Regression is one of the most primitive mechanisms, where the subject goes back in time whenever faced with stressful situations (Not like Paul London, sadly).
