Sami Zayn vs. Chris Jericho

Post by Raza »

OOC: Apologies for my poor showing today, had some bad news in the family this week so I've not had much time to plan or write much. Good luck to Ben and everyone else in your matches.

Monday April 27th 2015 – Monday Night Warfare – Maverik Center – Salt Lake City; Utah

There was less than a week remaining until the Aftermath pay-per-view and Sami Zayn was set to defend his Intercontinental Championship against Chris Jericho. Last week Jericho had stolen Sami’s championship and this week Sami was determined to get it back one way or another. Earlier on in the evening, Jericho was showing off the title he thought he would keep hold of but Sami Zayn had other ideas, surprising Jericho by appearing on the top of the steel cage and then diving off, hitting him with a huge Helluva Kick before grabbing hold of his Intercontinental Championship once more. The replay of the whole incident was shown on the titan-tron as Warfare returned from a commercial break and the cameras went backstage to Renee Young who was standing alongside Sami Zayn who just reached the backstage area with his Intercontinental Championship over his shoulder.

RENEE YOUNG
Ladies and gentlemen, joining me at this time…Sami Zayn. Sami…we just saw you dive from the top of the steel cage, on to Chris Jericho. What on earth was going through your mind out there?

SAMI ZAYN
Ha…I really don’t know Renee. I think it just shows what lengths I will go to, to make sure I keep hold of my Intercontinental Championship. This is what I live for, I fought so hard to get this back into my hands and last week I had one small lapse of concentration and we know how sneaky Chris Jericho is, he snuck in there and took me out when I was down and he stole my title, he waited until I had no idea and took it. Well this week I thought I’d take it into my own hands and give Chris a little surprise. He’s been here for a quite a while now, the devil will know every trick in the book so there’s no way I could simply walk down that ramp and try to take my gold from his hands because he’d probably lock me into a Walls of Jericho for a week or so, so I used my initiative, went a little bit more creative and decided to surprise him, and look…it worked.

Sami pointed towards his title on his shoulder as Renee smiled at him before moving on to her next question.

RENEE YOUNG
You’ve been on a great run recently, you’ve defeated some of the finest in this business but last week you fell to CM Punk, would you put that down to Chris Jericho and his challenge?

SAMI ZAYN
Nope. I lost to CM Punk because CM Punk was the better man on the night, he’s been on a tear lately too so it was two guys on a good run of form going against each other, two champions, and on that particular night Phil got the better of me and I respect that. There’s no way I’m letting someone like Chris Jericho take the credit for that, he’s done nothing but talk and hit me with cheap shots and stole my title, nothing. At Aftermath I will show him that there’s a reason why Lance Storm and Trent haven’t jumped into my business ever since.

RENEE YOUNG
Thanks Sami.

Sami nodded his head and walked off as the camera focused on Renee Young who watched Sami walk away, the screen faded to black.

Wednesday April 29th 2015 – EBWF Headquarters – Media Department

Sami was at the EBWF Headquarters, in the media department so he could film his promo which would air in the build-up to his Intercontinental Championship match at Aftermath. He was being mic’ed up and was in the correct attire before he was adjusted in front of the cameras, putting down the script so he could speak as he placed the Intercontinental Championship over his shoulder.

SAMI ZAYN
WrestleMania was one of the great nights of my life, not only did I defeat two former World Champions in Lance Storm and Trent, I recaptured my Intercontinental Championship. But just like every champion, I have a target on my back and this time my target happens to be Chris Jericho. Now people assume that my ‘feud’ with Chris Jericho started out of nothing a few weeks ago, simply because he thinks I disrespected his buddies, I can tell you that’s far from being even slightly correct. This issue, this hatred stems back months, when he, Lance Storm and Trent took me out and locked me in a double Canadian Mapleleaf, now that hurt but what hurt them was that I defeated their golden boy, THAT is what’s eating Chris Jericho up inside and I genuinely cannot do anything about that even if I wanted to. The only way he can take this title from me is if I want him to, and I lay on the mat and I let him get the cover because if we’re genuinely wrestling inside of the ring, there’s no way I’m letting Chris Jericho walk out with my championship. I think people are wrong when they say I hate Chris Jericho, or when they say I’m overlooking him or when I disrespected him because that’s also incorrect. We’re all aware of what Chris Jericho has achieved, he’s someone I look up to and probably will look up to in the future, and he’s the wrestler of the year in the EBWF for a reason. I know what he is capable of, there’s no way I’m ever letting a slouch compete for this championship and he’s certainly no slouch. We saw what Chris was capable of at WrestleMania, he came THIS close to defeating Solomon Crowe and it showed that age won’t matter, experience won’t matter, the only thing that will matter is who can capitalise on the others’ faults on the night and according to my game plan…I won’t be making any mistakes. The reason I said I am better than Lance and Trent is because…well…I proved it to be true at WrestleMania. I mean you handpicked Trent to hold this business afloat when you’re not around but just like his World Championship reign, his Intercontinental title reign didn’t last too long either in that, well, handicap match and I walked out with the gold and the three of you were left wondering what went wrong. Now, as good as Chris Jericho is inside of the ring, as much as he will bring to the table, I know for a fact that not even a steel cage will keep anyone out. Nothing is stopping them from climbing the cage from the outside and coming in so that the tree of them can take me on, 3 on 1 because let’s be honest, no referee will be able to climb in and save my ass so it’s up to me to make sure I can finish off Chris Jericho and either climb out of that cage or make him tap or even pin him before anything of that sort can happen. At WrestleMania Chris, you got yourself in a fight when you didn’t want one, you wanted a wrestling match and at Aftermath that’s exactly what you will get with me. I won’t get into a fight, if you’re a good wrestler than I’m a better wrestler and on Sunday you’ll realise that. And I’ll be a very lucky man when I can say that I’ve defeated all three of you, Lance, Trent and the great Chris Jericho. You’ve been adamant that you’re going to take this title from me, and I’ll give you credit where it’s due, you stole the title from me and held and for one whole week you felt what it was like to be the Intercontinental Champion, you felt what it was like to be relevant, to have all of the people, the media talking about you again, I know how much you miss that feeling when Y2J was the king of the world. But I’m not going to let you have that feeling again, I’m not going to be the man that allowed Chris Jericho the chance to reach the top again, that’s not what I’m here for, I’m not going to be used as a platform to move on to bigger and better things, I am one of the biggest things here and there’s no way I’m planning on changing that any time soon. I captured this Intercontinental Championship to be a fighting champion and if that means I need to defend it against Jericho, then so be it, because he’ll simply be another name crossed off the list who underestimated Sami Zayn and paid the price for it. I’ve defeated plenty of World Champions since I arrived here and I won’t hesitate in defeating one of the biggest yet. This is my title, and this is my time, Chris Jericho simply cannot defeat me.

Sami stared into the camera after his defiant speech and the camera faded to black, ending Sami’s time in the headquarters.

Sunday May 3rd 2015 – Aftermath – TD Garden – Boston Massachusetts

Aftermath was finally here and the night was already in full swing, a number of matches had taken place and as the fans settled down, the cage lowered towards the ring as the music played and eventually it was placed over the ring which signalled that the Intercontinental Championship match was taking place next. Finally, “World’s Apart” hit the PA system and Sami Zayn emerged on the stage with his Intercontinental Championship around his waist. The fans in Boston erupted into the ‘Ole!’ chants as he danced his way down the ramps and walked up the steels steps and scouted the steel cage which felt a little bit intimidating. He finally walked in and unhooked his belt and walked around the ring, lifting his title in the air to thunderous cheers. Eventually he raised the microphone so he could speak.

SAMI ZAYN
What a crowd here tonight in Boston, it sounds like this City is ready to see a cage match! This cage, designed to keep people inside but only one man will escape, hopefully that man is me and I have my title with me and Jericho doesn’t have his buddies come and steal it from me. All week I’ve not been able to sleep, thinking just how dangerous this could be, I mean we saw it earlier this week when I slammed Jericho’s head into this side of the cage over and over and over, tonight let’s hope I don’t hit him so hard that he wakes up thinking he’s back in 2000 and on top of the world because this Chris Jericho is already too much to deal with. I think the time for talking is over, get out here Chris and show me what you still have left in that tank of yours.

Sami threw the microphone away as he waited for Jericho to come down and enter the cage, he took off his shirt and awaited his arrival as he ran from one side of the ropes to the other to warm himself up for the gruelling match ahead.
