Fighting the Werewolf

OOC: Feeling pretty tired after a busy week, so wasn't able to put as much effort into this as I would have liked. Hopefully you still enjoy reading it. Best of luck to Tony.

The scene opened at the Pepsi Center, where Wade Barrett was seen walking through the backstage area. The camera followed Barrett, and as the Bare Knuckle Brawler turned the corner, he was stopped by Michael Cole.

Wade Barrett: Michael... to what do I owe this pleasure?

Either Cole didn't hear the sarcasm in Barrett's voice, or he chose to ignore it.

Michael Cole: Well Wade, I was hoping to ask you a few questions about your match tonight.

Barrett shrugged nonchalantly.

Wade Barrett: Sure. Fire away.

Cole turned to the camera and introduced Barrett, then began the interview.

Michael Cole: Ladies and gentlemen, with be at this time is Wade Barrett, who will be competing tonight against his former partner, Justin Gabriel. Wade, how do you feel about going up against a superstar you have so much history with?

Wade Barrett: You know Michael, there aren’t many superstars in the EBWF that I respect, but Justin Gabriel is one of them. We were both part of the Nexus, and we worked well together – the Nexus was an effective unit, and Gabriel was an asset to us. But respect only goes so far... I'll still be fighting to win tonight, and I'll do whatever it takes to do it. Even if that means hurting a man I consider to be a friend.

Michael Cole: Are you confident about your chances going into that match?

Barrett looked at Cole, frowning.

Wade Barrett: Why do people always ask me that question? You, Renee, Todd... you would think that you'd have learned by now. There isn't a single match in my career that I haven't gone into confident of winning; if I wasn't confident, I wouldn't be here, plain and simple. I know I haven’t been on the best run lately, but I'm still a fighter. And I can guarantee that I have more fight in me than Justin Gabriel.

Michael Cole: Can I ask what makes you so sure you have more fight in you than Justin Gabriel?

Wade Barrett: That's a better question, Michael... yes you can ask that, and I'm happy to answer it. I said earlier that Justin Gabriel was an asset to the Nexus, but I didn't say why. It wasn't just about his talent, as obvious as that was. Justin is one of the best high-fliers I've ever seen, and he gave the Nexus something different when he stepped into the ring. But the real reason Gabriel was an asset to the Nexus was because of the fire he had in him. He calls himself "the Werewolf", and that's what I saw in him when we worked together. You wouldn't think it to look at him – the guy has a face that looks like butter wouldn't melt – but there was a dark side to Justin Gabriel that made him a very useful ally. The problem is, Michael, I haven't seen the Justin Gabriel I worked with for a while now. We saw the Werewolf during the King of the Ring tournament – he made it to the final, and he was unlucky not to win. But what has Gabriel done since then? It seems like he's too busy focusing on keeping his girlfriend in line rather than focusing on what he does in the ring. It's sad, really. I want to fight the Werewolf. If I was going up against the man that took Sami Zayn to his limits at the King of the Ring, I'd still be confident of victory, but I'd also be wary of defeat. Instead, I'm going up against a guy that's desperate to prove he wears the trousers. That's why I know I have more fight in me, because my focus is entirely on proving myself in that ring. Hopefully if I hit Justin hard enough with the Bull Hammer, I can knock some sense into him.

Michael Cole: I just have one more question. In recent weeks, you and your tag team partner Ryback have been at war with the EBWF Tag Team Champions, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. Is that rivalry just about the Tag Titles, or is it more personal than that?

Wade Barrett: It's about the titles, Michael – plain and simple. Ever since Luke Harper and Stardust pulled off a shock victory against us at King of the Ring, the tag division has been floundering. Ryback and I are still the best tag team in EBWF, Rollins and Ambrose are just the placeholders. It's time we took the titles off them and restored some pride to EBWF's tag division.

Michael Cole: Wade, thank you for your time and good luck in your match tonight.

Wade Barrett: Thanks, Michael... but I don’t need luck.

Barrett smiled smugly, then walked away from Cole as the scene faded.
