Kyle O'Reilly had the opportunity to become the Breakout Champion. A title generally reserved for up and coming talent, all of his competitors were established wrestlers who were well known by the EBWF Universe. Kyle however was a mystery. Some had seen footage of what he could do, others just dismissed him as a rookie that didn't deserve to be there. He stood by Renee Young waiting to be interviewed. He was prepared to go at this alone to prove that he didn't need the rest of the Vertex to help him. Before the interview got underway Ted DiBiase approached him and stood next to him. Ted had helped Kyle a lot since he arrived in EBWF and as much as they talked about being taken under Miz and Ted's wing that was really the case. They had both helped Kyle adjust to being on the road and working for a major wrestling company known across the world.
Renee Young: Welcome everybody to Fanniversary. With me at this time are two members of The Vertex, Kyle O'Reilly and Ted DiBiase. Kyle you're set to face off against Mankind, Dolph Ziggler and the current Breakout Champion Jeff Hardy with the Breakout Championship on the line. First of all do you think you have what it takes to defeat three established wrestlers and cause an upset?
Kyle was set to respond when Ted leaned over and cut in.
Ted Jr: Cause an upset? Those 3 "established" wrestlers as you put it have achieved nothing of significance in this company.
Renee Young: 2 of them are former World Champions.
Ted Jr: And look how far they've fallen. Look at Dolph Ziggler, he's dropped from a World Champion earlier this year to nothing. Jeff Hardy hasn't been significant since I defeated him for the Path to Glory Championship several years ago and I don't know if Mankind has ever been relevant. He sure as hell hasn't been relevant here in EBWF. This person standing next to me is the future of this company. He was chosen by Miz and I for a reason. He's young, hungry, determined and ruthless. He wants the Breakout Championship, there's no denying that. He's got more talent than any of those people. He's the new Bret Hart. He's got the technical skills to out wrestle anyone in this company.
Renee Young: Mankind claimed that both Dolph and Kyle were only added as filler to this match. What are your thoughts on that?
Ted Jr: When O'Reilly snaps Mankind's ankle I think he'll be changing his mind. Kevin Owens, Finn Balor and this man here are what this company needs. These are the three guys that need to be in the main events and representing the company but they refuse to do that. They've got washed up wrestlers like Mankind, like Jeff Hardy, like Edge and Randy Orton all hogging the spotlight and preventing these young and up and coming wrestlers from taking their deserved place in this company.
Renee Young: Kyle, I'd like to ask you what this opportunity you have means to you.
Kyle stepped forward and directed his comments towards Renee.
Kyle O'Reilly: This is what I've been wanting to do since I arrived here. I want to win matches and win championships. I know I've got the skill and the talent to defeat anyone in this company. Mankind wants to shrug me off straight away? I'll let him. I'll let Dolph and Hardy do the same. Think of me as just filler for this match. Then when I'm standing victorious it'll be that much sweeter.
Renee Young: You've wrestled all across the world, now you're a part of the biggest wrestling company in the world challenging for a championship.
Kyle O'Reilly: I've always wanted to be on the same level as some of the biggest names in this industry. I've fought people around the world and it's all led up to this. You grow up idolising wrestlers as a kid. I'd be lying if I said I never got excited watching Jeff Hardy leap from ladders or Mankind destroy himself on a nightly basis. But that was when I was a child. I'm the man that can take these old legends out now. To become the Breakout Champion would make that title relevant again. It would show that young talent can overtake the old talent and that I am made for bigger and better things in this company.
Renee Young: To defeat former World Champions would be a huge achievement for a young wrestler like you, but in a fatal four way match anything can happen. What strategy do you have going into this match?
Kyle O'Reilly: I can't focus on just any one wrestler, I need to have eyes in the back of my head. But I'll do it. I'll fight harder than I have before and push it up another level. I'll give my all to leave this place as the new Breakout Champion. I can lose this match without being in the deciding pinfall or submission, so I need to be at my best.
Renee Young: Should you win tonight you will become the first out of you, Finn Balor and Kevin Owens to win a championship. What does that mean to you?
Kyle O'Reilly: Absolutely nothing. We're a unit, and when one of us succeeds, all of us do. This is only the beginning of us and I know that The Vertex is going to be moving up. As Ted said, we're the guys that will run this company. It may not be today, it may not be tomorrow, but we will all rise up and take this company over. It starts tonight when I shock everyone that ever doubted me, everyone that ever ruled me out because they don't think I'm good enough. Tonight I'm winning the Breakout Champion and tonight is the night that everyone takes notice of Kyle O'Reilly and the Vertex.
Kyle left the interview set with Ted DiBiase close behind. Ted took him aside and gave him some final words of encouragement, there wasn't much to be said. Kyle knew the importance of this match and what a win tonight could do for his career.
