As part of a pre-show segment, Corey Graves and Joey Styles sent the cameras backstage to Renee Young, who was standing beside Torrie Wilson.
RENEE YOUNG: "Thanks guys. As you can see, I'm standing next to Torrie Wilson, who later tonight is scheduled to go one-on-one against Velvet Sky. But, Torrie, I understand you have an announcement about tonight that goes beyond your match."
TORRIE WILSON: "Well, Renee, yes I do. Tonight will actually be my last night here in EBWF - my last match. After a lot of thinking, a lot of going back and forth...I've decided that it's time for me to hang the old boots up. And hey, nobody better make an age joke out of that."
Torrie directed her attention right at the camera for that last line, chuckling a little bit.
RENEE YOUNG: "That's quite the news. Can you give us some insight as to why you've made this choice?"
TORRIE WILSON: "It wasn't easy, that's for sure. Like I said, this didn't happen overnight. But, I just think it's my time. I've had an amazing career here; I've had the best times of my life, I've had moments that I'll keep with me for as long as I live, and I've made great friends that I know I'll always have beyond this arena. I wouldn't change any of that for the world. There just comes a time in every wrestler's life that they realize it's best to leave things be and move on. And I know it's much better to walk away on your own rather than stick around until you physically can't stay. I mean, nobody can do this forever. And yes, I know, I've already been at it for almost that long. Don't tell me."
Again, she referenced the camera and all the people watching.
RENEE YOUNG: "And how do you feel about your last match being against someone like Velvet?"
TORRIE WILSON: "I couldn't be happier. She is one of the girls that I've had the pleasure of knowing and working with since very close to the beginning. We've had great matches in the past, and I'm glad we have this chance to have one more."
RENEE YOUNG: "Well, I think I speak for everyone when I say thank you, Torrie. And I, as well as everyone here in EBWF, wish you all the best."
TORRIE WILSON: "Thank you. The pleasure has really been all mine."
And that was that. A legend in the eyes of many EBWF fans was about to take her final bow. But, you know what they say. In this business, it's never really goodbye. It's more like a see you later.
