One Last Time

OOC: So Raza and I wanted to write a segment for Warfare to set up our Summerslam match, but due to conflicting schedules we weren't able to do so. Here is the segment that was intended for Warfare last week... better late than never right?

Monday Night Warfare returned from the commercial break, and as the fans settled down into their seats again, they suddenly erupted into cheers as ‘World’s Apart by CFO$ blasted the PA system with fans trying to catch a glimpse of the former EBWF World Champion. Sami hadn’t been seen the Sacrifice event, ever since Kevin Owens defeated him in a Last Man Standing match, and Sami was taking a little longer than usual to make his way to the stage. Eventually, the cheers got louder as Sami danced his way on to the ramp in his usual get-up, consisting of his Harrington jacket and his flat cap. He then danced his way down the ramp and got into the ring; all smiles as he scouted the arena after weeks of missing action.

Corey Graves: It sounds like the crowd is happy to see Sami back!

Joey Styles: I think we all are, Corey! We’re not used to seeing Sami miss so much time off, even if he isn’t 100%!

Corey Graves: You’re right, and after the beating Kevin Owens gave him at Sacrifice, I’m beginning to wonder whether it was a good idea to get back out of bed this soon - let alone back inside of the ring!

Sami smiled as the fans chanted his name, holding the microphone up and it was visible that he was happy to be back in the ring.

Sami Zayn: I’ll be honest, I told everyone at the back that you guys were gonna be loud but that was...thank you.

The chants continued as Sami continued to smile, before interrupting them again.

Sami Zayn: I just felt like I had been away for too long, I had been silent for too long and these things...you can’t do them over social media. So, I dusted myself off, got on a plane and told Chris Jericho that he’s gotta fit me on to the show. Somebody like me...I know what it’s like to lose. I lost in my debut here, I lost against guys I shouldn’t have lost against and I’ve lost matches where nobody ever doubted me. Losing the Intercontinental Championship hurt, and I can’t begin to explain what I felt when I lost the World Championship after one month of holding the crown. I guess in between those losses, you can fit Jimmy Havoc in there too, as I thought I was destined to win the King of the Ring back to back...to back.

Sami composed himself, wanting to take a quick breather before moving on.

Sami Zayn: But when I was at home in bed, avoiding reading and happening what was happening here, it hit me that my loss at Sacrifice against Kevin Owens probably tops the list. I tried talking myself out of it, that it’s only Kev and he’s always tried to one-up me. But when he’s the first thing you think of when you wake up, and the last thing you think of before falling asleep, you know that this cloud is going to follow you wherever you go...until you sort that issue out. I’m going to admit that he was the better man last time out, and I’m going to admit that I’m not exactly at 100% right now, but it’s eaten away at me for far too long and ignore it completely. I need to sort this problem out, I need to get this man out of my life and the only way we can do this is by doing it one more time, the last time. I know you’re here Kev, and I know you probably think you don’t need to do this because you’ve already beaten me, but I know that even YOU won’t be satisfied with yourself until you put me down for good. Now’s your chance, let’s do this.

Sami sighed, knowing he was throwing himself into the deep end but was sure Kevin would begrudgingly accept as he waited in anticipation for Owens. “Fight” by CFO$ hit and the crowd gave a mixed reaction as Kevin Owens made his way to the ring. Owens was smirking, and there was a cockiness in his voice as he spoke to Sami Zayn.

Kevin Owens: Well hey Sami! Thanks for showing up. It’s been what, three weeks since Sacrifice… was today the first day you were able to get out of bed? You’re right, I do want to put you down for good. But when I look at you, Sami, I think I already have. You might still be standing, but mentally you’re a broken man. You’ve lost your smile. Beating you again would be like fighting an injured puppy. It would be cruel. And I am many things, but I’m not cruel.

The crowd booed again. Owens shrugged, showing the fans he didn’t care what they thought of him.

Sami Zayn: Yeah, we all think you’re an angel. Look, I understand, you don’t feel the need to beat me because you’ve beaten me already, I get it. But you know out of everyone on this damn planet how annoying I can be. I was enthusiastic when we wrestled in barns and I had bones broken ready to compete, and you can be sure that even if you don’t fight me here, the mere presence of me is going to irritate you every single day, KNOWING you could have ended it for good and you chose not to. Then, when we meet again down the line and I beat you, you’re going to tell me how wrong you were not to accept this one final challenge. I am broken, I am hurt, I am angry, upset - every emotion you can think of. But you know that I’m not giving up, because as these people know, we’re going to fight forever whether we do it tonight, next week, SummerSlam or WrestleMania. It will happen.

Sami stared at Kevin on the stage, trying his best to persuade Kevin into accepting his desperate challenge.

Kevin Owens: See that’s the problem, Sami. You said it yourself, you don’t give up. No matter how many times I beat you, you keep coming back for more. It’s like you don’t know when to quit. You’re like that annoying ex-girlfriend that’s desperate to get back together and begs you for one more chance. You’ll ask me to fight you one last time, I’ll beat you, and you’ll come back again and say “please Kevin, give me one last chance to beat you”. As far as I’m concerned, Sami, we’re done.

Owens was about to walk away, but as he turned away from Sami Zayn, he stopped. He began stroking his chin, as if an idea had formed. He turned back to Zayn and continued speaking.

Kevin Owens: Unless… you really mean it when you say this is the final match. Because if you do, there’s a way we can settle this once and for all. I said you don’t know when to quit, so if we’re going to fight, I want it to end with two simple words - “I quit”. You want your match so bad Sami, then face me in an I Quit match at Summerslam.

The crowd cheered at Owens’ counter offer, while Sami stood in silence with a motionless expression, knowing he’d had to stoop to his level if he really wanted the match, regardless of the stipulation.

Sami Zayn: You know, I kind of expected this from you. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the kind of “person” Kevin Owens is. If you don’t know already, pinning my shoulders on the mat for three seconds doesn’t count as a victory for him, neither does him being the last man standing, watching over my lifeless body after being put through hell. In fact, it wouldn’t surprise me if him defeating me for a World Championship didn’t satisfy his needs...not until he hears me say those two words. Well, unless fate has other ideas, I guess this is the last time. You want that I Quit match? You got it. I hope you’ll be able to show your face to your wife, and both of your kids and tell them how your overconfidence cost you.

Owens laughed.

Kevin Owens: You just love bringing up my wife and kids, don’t you? I think you’re jealous, because I have a family and you don’t. If you really think you can make me quit, Sami, good luck to you. Because I know I can make you quit, and that’s what I’m going to do. So after Summerslam, when I go back home to my beautiful wife and our two wonderful children, I will do it with a smile on my face, knowing I finally finished this rivalry once and for all. The real question is how you’ll be able to deal with it when you go back to your empty house, knowing that the better man won.

Sami laughed at Owens’ insults, trying not to let his bitter rival have the last laugh after he manipulated the situation and had Sami agree to an I Quit match.

Sami Zayn: Well… I hope you cherish the moment while it lasts because based on how you’re coming off right now, I think when you go home after SummerSlam, after they hear you say I Quit, I think their bags will already be packed ready to go out. Because YOU risked your reputation and failed, and they probably don’t want to be associated with a father or a husband who is known to quit.

Fans cheered Sami, as it was clear what he was trying to do. Owens looked angry, but he shrugged and dropped his microphone, then went to exit the ring. Just as he was about to exit the ring, Owens turned back to Zayn and charged towards him, going for a clothesline. Zayn was ready for Owens and he ducked out of the way, then hit the half and half suplex. Both men got to their feet and Zayn hit an exploder suplex, sending Owens into the corner. The crowd cheered in anticipation as Zayn signalled for the Helluva Kick! Zayn ran at Owens… but Owens ducked out of the way and rolled out of the ring. The crowd booed, and Zayn looked disappointed that he would have to wait until Summerslam to continue the fight.
