Canadians Always Say Sorry.

Kenny Omega sat on a bed, in a dark hotel room, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Warfare had ended a few hours ago, with Miz landing a skull crushing finale on Omega and hoisting the World Title above Omega’s barely conscious body. The title now lie draped half on the bed, half off it, but practically as far from Omega as it could be.

He held his head in his hands, his fingers into the edge of his hair, and sighed deeply. He had just tasted he first hint of defeat. The first sign of vulnerability. The self-doubt that fuelled his rapid ascent over the last few years in the wrestling industry had disappeared with his enormous success in Japan and now in EBWF. But it had came roaring back on the drive to his hotel. Was he all he thought he was? Could the Miz actually take his title? Was his EBWF success just a flash in the pan?

He flung his hands down in despair, stood up in disgust, and paced around the hotel room, as equal parts frustration and anger grew. After several tense, yet silent moments in the hotel room, Kenny resigned himself to the fact that nothing was going to change tonight, and figured some TV would help put his mind at ease. After unsuccessfully searching for the remote, He walked over to the large flat screen TV hung on the wall in his suite, and powered it on by hand. The image that greeted him, made his blood boil, as he saw a replay of Warfare’s finale, with the Miz standing above him once more, holding HIS title. Omega burst out -

FUCK!

And slammed his fist into the TV, cracking the glass and forever losing his damage deposit. He sighed again, staring at what he’d done. Frustrated he flopped on the bed beside his championship. He turned his head and stared at it beside him momentarily before he pushed the world title onto the floor, rolled back over onto his back and stared at the ceiling until he fell asleep.

Wednesday morning came quickly, but Omega had found little relief. He sat up in the same hotel bed and rubbed his eyes from his restless sleep. He stood up and drug his feet over to the desk in his hotel room. He sat down at the desk and flipped open his laptop, to a number of new e-mails and tweets from fans, but an email from Wes Ikeda stood out. He opened it to find his usually open schedule now very full. Press events, interviews, autograph sessions, charity galas... Kenny reeled and leaned away from his computer screen as he took it all in. He’d been a part of big events before, but nothing on this grand of a scale. Worst of all, he was going into these events with the sting of a skull crushing finale still fresh from the Miz, not to mention the skull splitting headache. Kenny noticed that it was almost 10am, and remembered he had requested the late checkout last night. He shut his laptop and ordered some room service, and flopped onto his bed and starts browning twitter waiting for his food.

He scrolled passed 100s of tweets from Miz fans rubbing Omega’s face in the skull crushing finale of Warfare, with many alluding to the finale of Omega’s reign as World Champion. He passed by tweets supporting Omega, and boasting that the best wrestler in the world today needn’t worry about the threat the Miz poses. Nothing was getting trough to Omega however. Not even the repeated knocking at the door declaring the arrival of his room service could get through until three very loud bangs at the door caught his attention. He shouted for them to come in and the food was brought into the room. The state of the TV surprised the young room service attendant, but the world championship belt lying on the floor at the side of the bed was doubly surprisingly.

Room Service: Hey! You’re Kenny Omega! You’re the World Champion! Oh wow. Can I have your autograph?!

Omega: uh yeah. I just signed the bill for this food, why don’t you keep a copy for yourself.

Room Service: Aww thanks man! That’s awesome.

He looks at the bill for a moment then back to Omega.

Room Service: But this says... Tyson Smith?

Omega: *Sighs* Yes. That is my name. I would sign Kenny Omega on the bill, but apparently Visa doesn’t know the difference.

Room Service: oh yeah... right! So you must be scared to face the Miz after he kicked your ass on....

Omega: GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY ROOM! And FUCK THE MIZ!

The Room Service attendant scurried out of the room leaving Omega alone once more. Now frustrated again he stared at his food, then at his TV, and finally at the ceiling as his frustrations began mounting again. Unable to eat his breakfast without watching TV, he packed up his belongings, threw the belt into his luggage, grabbed a bite of toast and walked out of the room, and headed towards the airport.

From the back of his Uber, Kenny was group texting his long time friends Nick and Matt as he headed towards Trudeau international airport. His flight had been delayed by a few hours thanks to another snowstorm pummelling the east coast, but Kenny figured waiting in an airport wasn’t the worst waste of time today. His trip through security was always a battle having to explain who he was, then pose for pictures with security, before finally getting through, and then the public will relentlessly bother you in what is already one of the most frustrating places to be in the world - the airport. Kenny’s flight was scheduled to go from Montreal to Toronto, then continue on to Chicago. Kenny would then change flights, and head to Nashville for the final Warfare before Wrestlemania! Kenny wasn’t booked for a match, but he had been wanting to get something off his mind since the Miz had embarrassed him the week before. Matt and Nick had been able to distract Kenny on his drive, but he had now arrived at the airport so, he disembarked and headed into the gauntlet.

Kenny’s 6 hour trip to Chicago and already morphed into a multi-day affair that seemed to never end. By the time that Kenny’s flight finally landed in Chicago, he connecting flight had already left without him. EBWF’s travel department had told Kenny to just call when he did arrive and they would handle everything. Kenny spent a good 30 minutes just stretching and appreciating being on the ground before finally grabbing his phone and catching up on some missed texts. He saw a lot of headlines from dirt sheets on Twitter predicting Omega’s next move. Many predicted a revenge attack. Others predicted a speech. Some predicted the arrival of “back-up” for Omega. They all just frustrated the Cleaner and spent the last of his remaining patience after his frustrating flights. Kenny grabbed his phone and dialled the EBWF Travel Department.

Agent: Hello, EBWF Travel, how may I be of assistance?

Omega: Yeah, I finally landed in Chicago.

Agent: Oh, Mr. Omega! I’m glad to see you’ve finally arrived. Let me book you on the next flight out of Chicago. I’ll be sure to make this one a direct flight for you. I have one that should have you Nashville in plenty of time.

Omega: No.

Agent: Oh? I’m sorry?

Omega: No. I’m not going to Warfare. Book me a flight to New Orleans. I need to start getting ready for Wrestlemania.

Agent: Oooh…kay… Well Mr Omega, EBWF’s reservation aren’t until the 21st. You wouldn’t…

Omega: I can take care of myself for a few days before the rest of the company shows up. Just get me there.

Agent: Yes sir. I’ll have your flight information sent to you ASAP. The next flight for New Orleans leaves in about 2 hours.

Omega: Thanks.

Omega hangs up and begins looking for a restaurant to kill some time at ahead of his next flight as people stop him along the way asking for photos and autographs, much to his annoyance.*

Morning came early in the Luxury Suite at The Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans as Wrestlemania week was now in full steam. Kenny Omega’s room was certainly luxurious, but the wake up call was the same at every hotel. Kenny stirred and got his bearings. Last night he had attended his first EBWF Charity event, and had made a point to outbid the Miz in every item in the charity auction, and was now certain he had likely already spent his first ever Wrestlemania bonus on an act of spite. The realization that this was a silent victory for the Miz over Kenny now quietly dawned on him.

Well shit.

His first solo commitment was quickly approaching as Kenny was scheduled for a telephone interview with Howard Stern. Kenny was thankful that this was a commitment he could do without pants, because he couldn’t find his at the moment. He showered and quickly had a light breaks as he watched a host of activity endlessly happening outside his room as the entire city prepped for Wrestlemania. At 5:45am, there was a knock at the door. Kenny greeted one of the EBWF Production assistants in his bathrobe that was covered in black and white meteoroids and was most definitely obtained in the Orient, like most of his career highlights. The Production assistant was there to ensure everything went off without a hitch for Kenny’s Sirius XM interview. Kenny welcomed him in and got settled in to a comfortable chair in his tacky white and black robe as the production assistant dialled into the show and got things prepped with the staff at Sirius. At 5:59am, Kenny was handed the phone, and was suddenly LIVE across the globe.

Howard Stern: ..and she had this shocked look on her face that I just will never forget. SPEAKING of shocking, we have a very exciting guest joining us from New Orleans this morning… it’s Kenny Omega, the reigning EBWF World Champion and a key attraction to the upcoming EBWF Wrestlemania XVII happening in the Big Easy this Sunday… Kenny, welcome to the show!

Omega: Well thank you Howard, this is an honour I never expected to receive in my career.

Howard: Oh you’re too kind. So tell us, you are defending your championship…

Omega: Yes, I will be defending my championship against The Miz. He earned the opportunity to face me back at House of Havoc by defeating Tommy End in a particularly impressive Ladder Match.

Howard: Impressive? Are you complimenting the man challenging you for your title?

Omega: I wouldn’t say it’s a compliment. It’s a fact. You don’t reach this level in our business if you don’t have the talent to get yourself here. I took the Miz lightly the first time I was in the ring with him after he became the number one contender, and it’s a mistake I won’t make again.

Howard: So you’re referring to the incident from Warfare two weeks ago, when the Miz almost put your face through the ring… is that what you’re referencing?

Omega: uhh… yeah, yeah that incident from Warfare is what I was referencing Howard, than you. I guess you could say that I made a couple mistakes. You know I sold the Miz short, I sold his career short, I sold his potential short..but you know, I’m not one to make mistakes, and I’m definitely not one to make mistakes more than once.

Howard: So you’re saying you see the Miz as an equal? A challenger to your throne if you will?

Omega: An equal? I have NO equal. I am the best in the world. I have proven that at every turn. In Japan, I attracted an audience that no one else had ever done. In the EBWF, I have won like no else ever has. At every turn I have proven that I am the best, so no… I do not see the Miz as an equal.

Howard: For those unaware, Kenny Omega debuted at the Royal Rumble in January when he attacked EBWF Legend Bret Hart, took his place in the Rumble, and went on to win the Rumble and become the World Champion. Take us back to that… what led to all that happening?

Omega: Well I had been in talks with EBWF to come over and debut for a few months, and it has always been a dream of mine to compete in the EBWF and the Royal Rumble was always a legendary event that I had always hoped to debut in, so I probably took a little too long to sign some legal documents, and after I signed, I was informed that unfortunately the card was booked, and there wasn’t room for me, but that I could debut on Warfare instead. Well to me this, this wasn’t an option, so I did what the best always do, and I made my own path. I created opportunity and then I seized that opportunity.

Howard: By creating opportunity you mean attacking a 60 year old man from behind, and stealing his opportunity?

Omega: You say it that way and it sounds bad Howard.

Howard: Bad? How can it be good?

Omega: Look, I did Bret Hart a tremendous favour. I showed him that his time was up. He claimed to be the best was, the best there is and the best there ever will be, and I gotta say, I got an issue with people claiming they’re the best, when time in and time out, Kenny Omega proves them wrong. Bret Hart now knows where he belongs, and that’s why you don’t see him on the air anymore.

Howard: It does seem to be a recurring issue with you. At House of Havoc, you defeated CM Punk in a non-title match, and it seemed that that match circled around CM Punk calling himself “The Best in the World.”

Omega: And you know how that ended Howard. With CM Punk on his back, and Kenny Omega standing above him. Which is how things are going to go for the Miz. You know I’ve heard him say that he is the Best of the Best, and I’ve got to stop him there. He may be a star. He may have a bunch of films to his credit, but one thing he is not, is the best. The Best in the World today, is none other than The Cleaner, Kenny Omega.

Howard: So how can you be so confident?

Omega: It’s simple quality over quantity Howard. Every 10 of the Miz’s punches hit like one of mine, every 20 of the Miz’s kicks hurts like one of mine, and there are not enough skull crushing finales to equal a single One-Winged Angel. The Miz knows it. I know it. And after Wrestlemania, the entire world will know it.

Howard: Well, that about wraps up our time with EBWF World Champion Kenny Omega. Coming up next after a few words from our sponsors, is EBWF Legend, their current Director of New Talent Development, Chris Jericho… stay tuned!

March 25, 2018 - 9:18am — Wrestlemania Day

Kenny was in his well-worn robe once more, sitting on the edge of his bed, staring the EBWF World Championship belt that he held in his hands. It had taken him almost fifteen years to realize his dream to become EBWF World Champion and headline Wrestlemania. He had just completed a whirlwind week of press interviews, charity events, autograph sessions, fundraisers, and more photos than he had previously thought possible. But for now, in this moment, in this quiet before the storm, Kenny Omega was at peace. It had been a turbulent few weeks, but Kenny had refocused in the chaos. Kenny had replaced the self doubt with confidence once more. Kenny had overcome the misstep, and Kenny was looking ahead to defending the championship.

History was coming.

March 25, 2018 - 637pm - Wrestlemania Pre-Show

The crowd in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome had been electric for hours, and the real show had yet to begin, but Devil’s Sky suddenly broke through the noise as the EBWF World Champion, Kenny Omega stepped out from the gorilla position into the Superdome. With the EBWF World Championship belt hung over his shoulder and no broom in sight, Kenny Omega steadily marched down the long ramp to the ring to a mixture of boos and cheers. The EBWF audience hadn’t seen the World Champion in an EBWF ring since the Miz had almost knocked him out with a Skull Crushing finale, but that was a distant memory as the start of Wrestlemania inched ever closer. Omega paused on the edge of the ring apron and look around and took in the awe-inspiring size of the crowd momentarily, before continuing into the middle of the ring. He walked over to one of the turnbuckles, and hung his belt over the ropes, then reached down for a microphone, and returned to the centre of the ring, leaving the belt unguarded in the corner.

Omega: First of all, as a proud Canadian, let me just say that I am sorry. I am sorry that Hurricane Katrina came and messed up New Orleans, the same way that I am going to mess up the Miz later tonight.

The crowd erupted in boos as Kenny smirked in the centre of the ring.

Omega: No I mean the city of New Orleans has always been a disaster zone, but after I’m done with the Miz, he’ll need more than FEMA to clean himself up.

The boos continued as the audience was clearly not very obvious, still-touchy subject matter.

Omega: A few days ago a lot of you fans saw the Miz ramble on incoherently about me and our match tonight. He spoke about how the EBWF is a land of opportunity and about how you either realize your dreams and accomplish your goals, or someone else does. About how you either win the big matches, hold the titles, make the money…. or someone else does. Well Miz, you are so FREAKING right. So tell me… where are your titles? Cause mine is right there hanging in that corner, but I don’t see any gold around your waist. You see, that’s because I AM THE BEST Wrestler in the world. So no matter what you say, I’M THE ONE who can back up the talk like I’ve been doing the past three months going THIRTY-ONE and OHHHHHHH. So let me do some math for you Miz or should I say…. Mr. 32?!

Omega: BECAUSE at Wrestlemania XVII, Kenny Omega will remain the undefeated EBWF World Heavyweight Champion, and you’ll just be another footnote in my biography. So to you.. and to all the fans here tonight I say…

GOOD BYE… MWAH!

AND GOOD NIGHT!.

BANG!

* Pyrotechnics exploded from the turnbuckles as Kenny grabbed his championship, exited the ring and headed to back as Wrestlemania was mere moments away from beginning….*
