[The camera focused on a basic, windowless office space. A pan around shows file cabinets lining the room partially, obscure art decorating the otherwise bare walls. A door on the opposing wall of the cabinets. The lens settle on a desk in the middle of the room. This desk, though simple, had something so life altering placed upon it. Something that was going to change the course of one man’s future with no way of turning back. A contract. The first step to officially begin Daniel Bryan’s journey into being a EBWF Superstar.]
[The door slowly opened, as if weighed down by the gravity of the situation. Fully emerging from the doorway came Daniel Bryan. His eyes instantly fell on the paper, a nervous smile that seemed engraved into his face grew wider. Just as he took a step towards the desk, a small knock was heard and the door opened. Renee Young stood there, microphone in hand ready to find out what the EBWF world had been waiting to hear.]
Renee: “Daniel, you finally made it back. You’re one signature away from accomplishing everything you’ve dreamed of since you were a boy. Are you nervous?”
[Daniel hesitantly turned towards her fully, as if he turned his back on the desk the contract would just vanish out of sight. He looked down and stroked his bearded chin, contemplating how to answer her. When he found the words, he looked up. That charismatic grin plastered on his face.]
Daniel: “I don’t think there’s any room to be nervous with all the excitement I’m feeling. I’ve spent a majority of my life to get to this point. I’ll be damned if I’m going to let nervousness be what stops me after all these years. I’ve earned this, Renee.”
[They both smiled and she opened her mouth to ask another question. His hand raised, stopping the words from leaving her lips.]
Daniel: “If you don’t mind, I think I know what everyone wants me to say.”
[She swept her hand in front of her, gesturing that the whole floor was his with no interruptions, and stepped back. The camera zoomed in slightly focusing solely on him.]
Daniel: “Now, I’ve been around for a long time. I know the risks.”
[He rubbed the back of his neck as if the world was giving him one last reminder of what could be in store for him again.]
Daniel: “I was forced on the sidelines because of those risks. My life was essentially put on a standstill because I pushed my body too far. Every week I came back to the ring trying to convince myself that all I needed was to keep going and that surgery could wait. But...eventually it caught up with me.”
[His eyes fell to the floor.]
Daniel: “I pushed myself to the point where I wasn’t allowed a choice anymore. I was forced to give my body a break .My life was essentially put on a standstill because I pushed my body too far. I was told if I didn’t slow down, my career would be over before its time. So I slowed down. I smelled the roses, I appreciated the small things in life.”
[The air in the room seemed to still as Daniel looked lost in thought, lost in that space of time when he couldn’t do what he was meant to do. Then suddenly with a blink, life returned to his eyes and his cheeks flushed with excitement.]
Daniel: “But the fear of those risks are nothing compared to what I feel when I walk down to that ring!”
[His hands swept around him emphasizing his words more.]
Daniel: “There’s nothing like it in this world. The music playing just for me to walk into that symphony of people cheering. For ME! These people, my fans, have been on this journey with me since day one. I wouldn’t be anywhere if I didn’t have the support of at least one person in those stands. So signing this paper isn’t just for me and my dreams.”
[He turned towards the desk, and took a few steps forward until he was at the edge of the desk. His eyes crinkled with remembrance of the joy and awe he felt being out there, surrounded by people yelling his name, cheering him on. He flipped open the portfolio, his eyes scanning the documents until they fell on the dotted line where he was meant to sign his name. He grabbed the pen that laid beside the papers.]
Daniel: “This is for everyone who believed in me and my dreams!”
[As those words left his mouth, the ink left the pen and his name was bled into the paper sealing his fate. The camera zoomed out again to catch Renee grinning as she was caught back in frame.]
Daniel: “So Renee, you asked if I was nervous. The answer is no. What you should’ve ask is am I ready to get back out there for the thousands of people who never gave up on me?”
[Daniel pumped his arms up and slight out, his index fingers the only fingers pointing outwards of his clenched fists, then back downward coming back towards his ribcage, his elbows bending. He repeated the motion over and over while chanting.
Daniel: “YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!”
[The camera panned out as his chants echoed on until they could be heard no more.]
