Never the Underdog

Ted DiBiase stood in front of the standard EBWF interview set with Matt Striker standing next to him. Ted seemed to be bored and disinterested while Striker was trying to act enthusiastic to hype the fans for the night ahead.
Matt Striker: Good evening everyone and welcome once again to another edition of Warfare, live from Dallas, Texas. With me at this time is Ted DiBiase, the current Path to Glory Champion. Tonight you go one on one with the high flying Evan Bourne, who recently lost the Breakout Championship at Summerslam to Michael McGuillicutty. How will you try to combat the high flying style of a man who is out there to regain gold in EBWF?
Ted let out a long sigh, followed by readjusting his PTG Championship on his shoulder.
Ted Jr: You're good with numbers aren't you Matt?
Matt Striker: I'd like to think so.
Ted Jr: Then please tell everyone how long I've held this championship for.
Matt Striker: 225 days.
Ted Jr: And how long did Evan Bourne hold his championship before losing it?
Matt Striker: 23 days.
Ted Jr: 23 days! I have nearly held this title 10 times longer than Bourne's reign as champion.
Striker said nothing in response, which was unusual as he would generally be spouting off pointless facts that nobody cared about. Ted put his arm around Striker, instantly making him feel uncomfortable.
Ted Jr: I've been champion for the entire year, and I've lost only a handful of times correct?
Striker simply nodded.
Ted Jr: So each and every week, you ask me questions about my opponent and how will I overcome them when the odds are always in my favour. I go out there each night, defeat whatever loser they put out in front of me and then walk back here and head off for the next destination. Why is tonight any different?
Matt Striker: Because anything can happen in that ring, there are upsets every night. Cody Rhodes winning the World Championship was an upset, you winning the PTG Championship in your return match was an upset.
Ted backed off of Striker for a moment, shocked by his words.
Ted Jr: An upset? My win was a systematic demolition of Jeff Hardy. Then it was Rhodes' turn and then Orton was next. I don't have upsets. When I defeated Hardy I effectively ended his career. Not through physical damage, something far worse than that. I made him irrelevant here in EBWF. Sure, he may have had a little thing going with Orton, but that was a long time ago. Where has he been all of this time?
Ted's words became more aggressive as he got going.
Ted Jr: I am the greatest champion alive, and come October 31 my name will be etched into the history books as the longest reigning champion ever to hold an EBWF championship. Now with my credentials and this championship...
Ted slapped his championship.
Ted Jr: This makes me better than Bourne, better than AJ Styles and better than everybody else. To even think that an upset might occur is ridiculous. Bourne can flip and jump and catch a bullet between his ankles but what use will that be when I kick him in the face? What use will his flips be when I make him tap out? It'll only show that I am the best in EBWF and there is no one that can even compare to me.
Matt Striker: So will tonight be a repeat of what happened at Summerslam when you took on Austin Aries?
Ted Jr: Austin Aries talked the talk, but when it came to backing up that talk, he failed. He thought that he was the overwhelming favourite going into the match, but in reality he was the underdog. That's the same thing tonight. Evan Bourne is the underdog and like all underdogs, his chances of winning are very slim. He'll want to defeat me to put his sub par career back on track and while that sounds great in theory he's forgetting one very minor detail.
Before Ted could continue speaking, Matt chimed in a very obvious question.
Matt Striker: And what would that be?
Ted grinned before answering. It was obvious that he was very confident and knew that tonight's match would be an easy win for him.
Ted Jr: I'm Ted DiBiase. I'm the Path to Glory Champion. And like a champion, I prove my worth every single night. Bourne thinks he's going up against the little rich kid, hiding behind his father's accomplishments. That is not the case. He's going up against the greatest wrestler in EBWF, the longest reigning PTG Champion of all time and the greatest champion of 2012.
Matt Striker: You used to have history with Bourne, and he actually did pick up a victory over you at Destiny in 2010. Does that fact play on your mind at all?
Ted Jr: He picked up a fluke victory, and if you remember correctly it was because my brother decided that he wanted to win a match instead of helping me. Now look where he is. My brother became irrelevant and forgotten by everybody. 2010 was a mixed year for me but no one can deny that 2012 is Ted DiBiase's year. Defeating countless EBWF legends, competing for the World Championship and becoming the longest reigning PTG Champion ever. I'm a different man compared to 2010 and even 2011. Bourne is still very much the same. He'll never soar to the heights I'm at now and he'll have to live with the fact that I'm always going to be better than him.
Matt Striker: We've talked a lot about your match tonight against Bourne. But there is another match that you're eligible for. Tonight we will determine the final person to enter the Elimination Chamber and compete for the World Championship. Will you be competing tonight in the Battle Royal invitational?
Ted Jr: In my opinion everyone that isn't currently in the Elimination Chamber should be in this match. If you aren't here for the World Championship, you should just pack up your bags and leave now. To call yourself the greatest, to hold the championship and be the best in EBWF and the world, that is what every wrestler should strive for. I'll enter the Battle Royal, whether I win, or my fatigued state costs me and makes me lose is not a problem to me. I will get another shot at the championship on my own terms, because nobody can deny that I deserve a shot. To enter the Elimination Chamber would be good, but it wouldn't give me high odds of winning. Regardless I will compete twice tonight, convincingly defeating Evan Bourne before becoming the final entrant into the Elimination Chamber.
Matt Striker: Thanks Ted, and good luck tonight.
Ted walked off, set to prepare for his upcoming match while Striker signed off.
Matt Striker: Will the Priceless One defeat the high flying Bourne tonight? Will he win the Battle Royal? Stay tuned to find out.
