The EBWF Universe, especially the women, erupted in loud cheers as the titan tron flickered to life, revealing a topless PJ Black. In the best shape of his career, Black’s body was ripped. He stood with his feet together, his palms flat against each other. His eyes were closed as he stood meditating. After a few moments, Charly Caruso walked up quietly. Her eyes scanned Black’s body for a second before she reached up and tapped him on the shoulder. Black’s eyes opened as he looked over at Charly.
Charly Caruso: ”Hey PJ..”
PJ turned to Charly and he kept his hands together in front of his chest. Black bowed slightly to her.
PJ Black: ”Namaste.”
Charly looked at him and just smiled. Black turned around. He reached down and picked up a tank top off the equipment box behind him. He put the muscle tank top on to a loud boo from the EBWF Universe.
PJ Black: ”How may I help you, Charly?”
Charly Caruso: ”PJ, I was wondering if I could get your thoughts on your match tonight..”
PJ Black: ”Certainly.”
Charly Caruso: ”Tonight kicks of the King of the Ring Tournament.. A tournament that has eluded you your entire career here in EBWF.”
Black clasped his hands together and let out a sigh.
PJ Black: ”Yes.. The King of the Ring Tournament. On thing that I still have not accomplished in my time here. I have come close many.. Many times. Some years, it looked like I was going to win. But nevertheless, I would come up just short of the crown.”
Black held his fingers apart just barely to show how close he’s come.
Charly Caruso: ”The last two tournaments, you weren’t in.. How does that factor into you gameplan?”
PJ Black: ”You’re forgetting why I wasn’t in the last two tournaments. Two years ago, I missed the King of the Ring Tournament only because well, I was the EBWF World Champion. Last year, I missed the tournament because I was put on the shelf. So the last two years, these men have had it easy. Even though I have never won a King of the Ring Tournament.. This event is MY event. Everyone knows that PJ Black shines his brightest during the King of the Ring. ”
Charly Caruso: ”That pegs the question.. How can the King of the Ring be “your” event, when you have won a single one?”
Black nodded as Charly called him out.
PJ Black: ”Charly, the point of the King of the Ring Tournament is to win. It’s to go to the finals, take the crown, and then go on to SummerSlam and get your shot at the biggest prize in the business. It’s your shot to glory.”
Charly nodded as she followed along with Black.
PJ Black: ”But that’s not all the King of the Ring Tournament is about. The tournament is about going out there each and every night and proving you are the best. You go out there and you prove that you belong here. That you deserve to be given a second look. That’s what I did..”
Charly Caruso: ”Do you mean getting to the main event picture?”
PJ Black: ”Exactly Charly.. All those years that I didn’t win the King of the Ring Tournament.. I learned from them. I learned what I did right, but most of all, I learned what I did wrong. Then I took all that, and I adjust myself. Then the following year, I went harder. I got further.. I took everything that I had learned and I put it all to the test, and I continued the process over and over.. Year after year. And look at me.”
He paused for a moment as cheers could be heard.
PJ Black: ”I never won the King of the Ring. I never won the Royal Rumble. I never cashed in the Path to Glory Championship.. No.. I got into the EBWF World Championship picture.. I got into the EBWF World Championship Elimination Chamber Match through my hard work. Through all the hard fought matches I had during the King of the Ring Tournaments that I’ve been in. Through all that hard work.. Through all that, I showed my heart. I showed my drive, but most of all.. I showed that I could lead this company, and that’s what I did. I took my opportunity and I made the most of it and I became EBWF World Champion. I wasn’t given any chances.. I didn’t take any shortcuts.. I fought hard, and I proved that I belonged.”
Charly Caruso: ”You did have a tremendous run, but then you got injured.. And since coming back from your injury, you’ve been taking things a little more, relaxed.”
PJ Black: ”Relaxed? Well, that seems like a good word to use..But don’t let the new me fool you. This new me.. It might be a little more mellow. A little more free spirited. That’s because when I was go with my injury, I was able to take the time and reflect. Reflect on where I was and where I wanted to go. I was able to find myself. My true self..”
PJ took a deep breath.
PJ Black: ”But inside this new me.. Inside, I’m still the hard fought, son of a gun that went against everyone to become the EBWF World Champion. I still have the drive.. I still have the passion.. I still have every bit of what it took to get the championship my first time.. So don’t doubt that this new, zen PJ Black, is a push over.”
Charly Caruso: ”Last week, you and Heath Slater suffered a loss to Bobby Lashley and Hardcore Holly.. Taking that pinfall so close the start of the tournament, do you think that will hurt your confidence going forward?”
PJ Black: ”It hurts, but everyone takes a lose once in a while.. Last week, Bobby Lashley hit me with a spear and got the victory. I can’t make excuses.. Heath and I went out there knowing that Lashley and Hardcore were bigger. They were fresher..”
Black looked a little disappointed, but he continued.
PJ Black: ”But to answer you question Charly.. My confidence isn’t faltered... Instead the pin has lit a fire under me. No one ever wants to get pinned two weeks in a row, so I’m going to go out there tonight and I’m going to make sure that it doesn’t happen. So you can think of Bobby pinning me last week as a wake up call, because that’s what it did. It happened at the perfect time, because King of the Ring starts tonight, and that pinfall motivated me. And with this tournament, I’m going to need all the motivation I can get.”
Charly Caruso: ”Does that motivation roll over onto your opponents tonight? Does facing Andrade Almas and Tommaso Ciampa motivate you to push yourself?”
Black took a second with a slow nod before he answered.
PJ Black: ”I haven’t had much experience with either of these me. So it’s going to be interesting to see how we all work in that ring. Both men are talented.. They wouldn’t be here in EBWF if they weren’t. But neither of them are PJ Black. Not that I’m trying to over inflate myself, but here in EBWF, I’ve got more experience than the two of you of them combined. I’ve accomplished more than the two of them in my entire career.”
Charly Caruso: ”They’re young and hungry..”
PJ Black: ”They are, but I’m not done yet. I’m not ready to hang up my boots just yet. I want to prove that my two reigns as EBWF World Champion weren’t a fluke. I want the championship again. I want to be King of the Ring. Tommaso and Andrade might want the same thing, but like you said. The two of them are still young. They’ve got many years ahead of them. They’ll have plenty of chances at becoming King of the Ring. But this year.. This year that crown belongs to me.”
Black smiled as he looked over at Charly.
Charly Caruso: ”Well, I know the EBWF Universe are routing for you. Good luck out there tonight.”
Black pressed his palms together and gave Charly another bow. She smiled as PJ Black turned and walked away.
Charly Caruso: ”Hey PJ..”
PJ turned to Charly and he kept his hands together in front of his chest. Black bowed slightly to her.
