Renee Young was standing by backstage as the camera faded in on her.

Renee Young: We are weeks away from the King of the Ring pay per view event and the 2019 King of the Ring Tournament is underway! In a special edition of King of the Ring, some first round matches are being decided with triple threat rules! In one of those matches tonight is the man I am interviewing today. He’s a two-time former King of the Ring winner himself, Randy Orton!

She maintained a professional composure as she turned and rapped lightly on the door behind her. Cupping the mic in her hands, she waited patiently for the door to open. When it did, Randy Orton appeared from the other side. He had on a pair of washed Imogene and Willie jeans, and a black Five Finger Death Punch shirt. He looked down at Renee and gave her a curt nod.

Randy Orton: Hey there.

Renee Young: No quips today, Randy? No clever comebacks?

Randy Orton: No, Renee. Grow up. We have important matters to discuss and I don’t have time to be making jokes. Please ask me what you came here to ask me.

Renee cocked her eyebrow at the former World Champ, clearly taken aback by his uncharacteristic seriousness. Renee shrugged and nodded in response.

Renee Young: Fair enough. Tonight, you have a triple threat match against AJ Styles and Braun Strowman. With such a huge difference in the wrestling style that both of those opponents have, what kind of strategy can you form to deal with both of them.

Randy Orton: Well, Renee, I’m probably going to cheat. I’m probably going to use the ring hardware to my advantage, and incapacitate one of those two idiots and pin the other.

Renee’s eyes widened.

Renee Young: You’re… going to…

Randy Orton: Cheat. I assume that’s what you were going to say.

Renee Young: Uh, yeah. Thanks for your candor I guess.

Randy Orton: Yeah, no problem. I mean it’s a triple threat match right? They can’t disqualify me for anything.

Renee Young: There is a certain expectation that even in a triple threat that you’ll still ...

Randy Orton: Yeah, but why though? Does it make my paycheck get bigger?

Renee Young: Well I’m not sure, but…

Randy Orton: Yeah, I’m not going to do that. Somebody is probably going to get kicked in the nuts tonight.

Renee Young: Well, that just seems mean.

Randy Orton: Yeah, probably. Any other questions?

Renee Young: Any other tidbits about how you’re going to approach this match other than the fact that someone is going to get kicked in the nuts?

Randy Orton: Come on, Renee. Do you expect me to win? Does anyone really expect me to win? What has happened in the last 6 months that would give you any indication that my number is getting called?

Renee Young: I….

Randy Orton: Yeah, that might have been a little too far behind the curtain. Listen. I’m going to go out there and put on a show with AJ Styles and that big dumb monster that they hired for the photo ops. I’m going to beat them the same way I do every time I’m in the ring. I improvise, I adapt. That’s how I win. That’s how I always win. Anything else?

Renee Young: Uh, no.

Randy Orton: Terrific.

Randy stepped back into his locker room and closed the door in Renee’s face. She looked at the camera with a confused look on her face, shrugging as the camera faded to black.
