Your All

Post by Ashlee »

The scene opened at an undisclosed hotel room. Edge sat at the writing desk, speaking into the front facing camera on his iPhone. He looked reflective, and stared silently into the screen for a moment before finally taking a deep breath and acknowledging the audience.

Edge: Well, what do you know? Another episode of EBWF Warfare and this week it looks like yours truly will be in the main event. And lucky me, I get to take on the Miz. We all know Miz, right? Former EBWF World Champion, absolute superstar. The man gets to be in group D every year at Axxess, and that’s not because he has a penchant for making ‘Group D’ jokes.

The left side of Edge’s mouth lifted in a slight smirk.

Edge: There isn’t anyone in this company that Miz hasn’t faced, and there isn’t anyone he hasn’t beaten. Except maybe Pac, but I’m sure that’ll come in time. But the interesting thing about you, Miz, is that you’ve been in a bit of a slump, haven’t ya, buddy? And because of that, you feel like this is a must win situation for you, don’t you? I mean, things are looking up for me. I’m once again, one half of the EBWF Tag Team Champions. Had some pretty impressive victories as of late. I’m still Edge. Planning on winning the King of the Ring tournament. You know how it is.

Edge gave the camera a knowing look, reacting as if Miz was the only one watching the video feed.

Edge: Something else I’ve noticed about you lately, Mike…. you’re happy. And congratulations. I’m happy for you. See what getting rid of dead weight like Styles can do? Feels liberating, doesn’t it? You got married! Amazing! Your personal life is probably better than it has ever, ever been.

Edge’s smile turned into a frown and he shook his head.

Edge: And it’s absolutely ruined your professional life. Because you’ve settled. You’re happy, Mike. So what more could you possibly want. You got the girl, you got the accolades, you got the paycheck. Who needs wins in the win column when life is this good? Who cares that you lost the world championship. You’re still one of the most famous, top paid guys around here. You don’t need a belt to prove yourself. But what you do need the belt for is to be the best. And God knows how all you’ve ever wanted was to be the best.

Edge pushed his hair back from his face and chuckled.

Edge: Whether it was the best annoying reality tv star. Whether it was the best prankster in the locker room. What you have never been is the best wrestler in EBWF. Look around you, Mike. Is Edge still employed? I am. Is Randy Orton still Gateway Champion? He is! Is Chris fuckin’ Jericho still walking the planet?

Edge nodded.

Edge: Yep!

Edge laughed.

Edge: I’ve always loved the fantasy land you’ve lived in. Thinking you could get with Maria Menounos. Thinking you could bring the Sequel back five times… which doesn’t even make sense by the way. It’s a Saga by that point…. Thinking you’re in Wes Ikeda’s inner circle. You’re a piece of work. Living in a fantasy land of your own self importance. And you’re just barely hanging on to the bottom rung of that ladder thinking you’ll be able to pull yourself up if you could just beat me tonight.

Edge wagged his index finger at the camera and clicked his tongue.

Edge: You always give it your best, Mike. I respect that. I know you’re going to give me your all tonight. I regret to inform you, it won’t be enough. Mark my words. It won’t be enough.

Edge cut the feed and an EBWF logo flashed across the screen before the autoplay feature did its job.
