Disrespect

The scene opened in the parking lot of the Bell Centre in Montreal, where Monday night’s Warfare show was being held. Chris Jericho had just arrived at the arena in a rental car. Unusually, his right hand man Jake Hager wasn’t with him. As Jericho walked towards the arena entrance, he was stopped by Cathy Kelley and a camera crew.
Cathy Kelley: Excuse me, Chris? I was just wondering if I could have a few words from you about your match with Tommaso Ciampa tonight?
Jericho glared at her, then glared towards the camera.
Chris Jericho: I’ll give you one word, Cathy... I’ll give you the word that’s been running through my head, over and over since Fanniversary. Disrespect. I have been disrespected by this company once again, and I am tired of it. I should never have lost the World Title to The Rock, and I shouldn’t have had to compete in a triple threat match at Fanniversary. I’m entitled to a rematch... a one on one rematch... it’s in my contract damn it! Now Aiden English is the champion, and all of a sudden it’s like I don’t exist. For the past month, I’ve basically been paid to sit at home. The executives told me, “take a few weeks off Chris. You deserve a break, be with your family”. Do you know what I deserve, Cathy? I deserve respect. Not to be ignored, then booked in a throwaway match with a guy who has lost so many matches no one can remember the last time he won one! We’re in Canada, and I’m on the fucking midcard. Because Aiden English is the World Champion, he gets the main event slot. No one in Canada cares about Aiden English or Tommaso Ciampa. Nobody! But Canada loves Chris Jericho. Why wouldn’t they? I’m one of their own, eh? That’s why I’m here tonight, Cathy. If we weren’t in Canada tonight, I would have refused to compete. But I owe it to the great people of Toronto to put on a show they will never, ever, forget.
Cathy Kelley: Um, actually Chris, we’re in Montreal...
Jericho shrugged.
Chris Jericho: Whatever. If we’re not in Winnipeg, it just doesn’t feel like home anyway. Especially if I hear people speaking French... ugh.
As Jericho walked away from Cathy Kelley, she tried to ask him one last question.
Cathy Kelley: Sorry Chris, there’s one more thing I wanted to ask you. Where is Jake Hager tonight?
Jericho stopped momentarily, but didn’t turn around to face Cathy Kelley.
Chris Jericho: Hager let me down at Fanniversary. That’s all I have to say on the matter.
Jericho walked into the arena as the scene drew to a close.
