OOC: Thank you to Dohko and Miles for helping me write this. This RP is mostly storyline development, hope you enjoy it :)
Sunday September 30th, Atlanta, Georgia
The scene opened at the Philips Arena with Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins making their way through the backstage area. Just minutes earlier, Zack had beaten Muhammad Hassan for the Breakout Title. Zack was still sweating from his match and had the title belt draped over his shoulder. Curt and Zack entered the locker room that Zack shared with Trent Barreta, where they found Trent stretching for his match. Trent was so focused on his stretching that at first, he didn’t even realise Curt and Zack had entered the room. Though he was trying not to be mad at Trent, Zack couldn’t resist saying something to Curt loudly enough that Trent would hear it.
Zack Ryder: Thanks for having my back out there, Curt. Means a lot bro.
Trent was reaching down to grab his toes when he heard his broski Zack... He turned to see them both and noticed that something on Zack’s face didn’t seem right. Trent ran a hand along his hair and offered them a smile.
Trent Barreta: Curt! Good to see you!
Trent’s eyes fixed on the Breakout title.
Trent Barreta: BROSKI! Congratulations!!!!!!!
He went for a hug. Zack smiled and hugged him back.
Zack Ryder: Did you see the match?
Zack knew full well that Trent hadn’t, but he didn’t want to make an accusation or start a fight. Trent rubbed a hand along his hair and shook his head.
Trent Barreta: To be honest... I’ve been here all night... Thinking... Focusing... I’m sorry I didn’t see your match.
Zack nodded. He understood, of course he understood. But he was still a little mad, even though he didn’t want to be.
Zack Ryder: It’s cool bro. I understand, really. If I had a World Title shot I’d shut everything else out too. To fill you in, I won obviously...
Zack held up the Breakout Title proudly.
Zack Ryder: And then Hassan and Daivari ambushed me! Luckily Curt came to my aid.
Zack patted Curt on the back. Curt smiled. Trent felt a boulder on his stomach, he felt sorry he didn’t keep his promise of backing up his broski.
Trent Barreta: Curt, thanks for being there for Zack... I feel terrible.
Zack was about to tell Trent that it was fine, to reassure him, when Curt began to speak.
Curt Hawkins: Hey, guys, listen...
Curt stepped forward and held up his palms. He was smart enough to know that a little animosity was beginning to brew and he wanted to keep things calm.
Curt Hawkins: Things could have gotten bad out there but they didn't. We all know Trent has a lot on his plate tonight so I made sure to watch the match carefully in case something went down. Hassan and Daivari are the ones hurting right now, not us. Let's let Trent do his thing. And when he win's that World Title we all go out and celebrate like the old days, eh?
Trent nodded. Zack grinned.
Zack Ryder: Woo woo woo! You know it!
Trent laughed as Curt rolled his eyes, pretending not to be amused. Curt tapped them both on the back and made his way out of the locker room. As he reached the door, Curt turned to face Trent once more.
Curt Hawkins: Good luck out there tonight, Trent. I'll be rooting for you.
Smiling, Curt made his exit.
Zack Ryder: The good old days... it feels like we're back there, Trent. And I have to say, having Curt as our broski again is SSSIIICCCKKK! But do you know what would really be "sick", Trent? If you won tonight! I'll be rooting for you too.
Zack and Trent hugged once more, before Zack left the locker room. He didn't want to get in the way of whatever match preparation Trent needed to do.
Monday October 8th, Charleston, South Carolina
With Warfare already underway, Zack was backstage in his locker room, stretching ahead of his match with Seth Rollins. Trent had texted Zack to tell him that he and AJ had gone on a date - they were in Charleston but not at the Coliseum. Trent had wished Ryder luck, but Zack couldn't deny that he would feel better if Trent were there. In winning the Breakout Title, Zack had made enemies of Muhammad Hassan and Daivari, and as Rollins and Dean Ambrose were now the number one contenders for the Tag Titles, they would surely be tempted to ambush him. Zack wouldn't have been surprised to find himself on the receiving end of a four-on-one assault before the night was over and he could not help feeling a little anxious about his impending doom. A knock on the door distracted Zack from his thoughts, and when he shouted, "come in", Curt Hawkins entered. Zack smiled, relieved that there was still someone at Warfare who had his back.
Zack Ryder: Hey, Curt, How's it going bro?
Hawkins rubbed a palm along the back of his neck in an awkward fashion. Despite having known Zack for many years, almost practically being brothers, he had been at this throat since arriving in the federation. He shook off his hesitation, momentarily, and simply nodded a hello.
Curt Hawkins: What's up, Zack? I didn't get the chance to at the show but...
Curt gave a glance to the Breakout Title resting on a shelf in the corner of the room. His eyes seemed to linger on it for a moment or two.
Curt Hawkins: ...congrats on your title win. And if Hassan tries to pull anything again I've got your back. Focus on your match with Rollins.
Zack smiled. After fighting with one of his oldest friends for so long, it felt good to be back on the same page with Curt.
Zack Ryder: Thanks, I appreciate it. It's actually just going to be the two of us tonight, Trent and AJ have gone on a date.
Zack paused for a moment. He wanted to ask Curt about Trent - to see if they felt the same way about his recent push - but he was worried about creating tension so soon after the three of them had become friends again. He decided to ask Curt what he thought anyway, but chose his words carefully.
Zack Ryder: Curt, can I ask you something? Do you find it strange, seeing Trent in the main event while we're... lower down the card? I'm pleased for him but I remember when the three of us would rise and fall together. I want to be up there with him, bro. I want my World Title shot.
Curt Hawkins: Isn't that what we all want?
Curt flashed a quick grin before looking a little more thoughtful.
Curt Hawkins: The World Title is what everyone on this roster is here for. Some people work their entire careers and never even get a chance. I was rooting for him, man. I wanted him to bring it home. Be happy for him. Because you know if the shoe were on the other foot he would be cheering his brains out for you.
Instinctively, Zack became defensive.
Zack Ryder: I am happy for him... just a little jealous. It's great that I'm the Breakout Champion but I'd trade that title for a World Title shot in a second.
Zack hated to admit that to anyone, himself included, but Curt nodded in a way that suggested he understood.
Curt Hawkins: I think you're forgetting something. You're also one half of the Tag Team champions. You're the only double champion in this company at the moment.
Hawkins gave The Major Broski a pat on the shoulder before slowly backing out of the room.
Curt Hawkins: Don't lose track of what's important, Zack. Trust me. I went down that road. It's not a place you want to be.
Zack wanted to thank Curt for his support and advice, but Curt left before the words came out. Zack was about to go back to stretching when there was another knock at the door. Zack shouted, "come in", once more and this time Matt Striker entered.
Matt Striker: Zack, I was wondering if I could get a few words ahead of your match tonight?
Zack Ryder: Sure bro! Fire away.
Matt Striker: First of all, congratulations on your Breakout Title victory at Destiny! How does it feel to be holding your first singles title in the EBWF and to be the company's only double champion?
Zack Ryder: At the risk of sounding like The Miz, Matt... it feels awesome! For the last few months, I've been hiding in Trent Barreta's shadow a little. We may be the Tag Team Champions but Trent is the one who's been climbing up the card. He's my broski and I'm proud of him, but I needed to get the Ryder Revolution back on track to make sure I wasn't left behind. Winning the Breakout Title was the perfect way to do that and believe me when I tell you, this is just the start. I've got my eyes on the PTG Title, the IC Title, even the World Title! I won't be standing still now I'm a champion, mark my words.
Matt Striker: Good to know. Speaking of "broskis", I saw Curt Hawkins leaving your locker room when I was on my way over here and of course, Curt came to your aid at Destiny when you were ambushed by Muhammad Hassan and Daivari. Can I assume it's safe to say that despite your previous rivalry, Curt is your broski once again?
Zack Ryder: You know it, Matt! Me, Trent and Curt, we're the three broskiteers. Curt has put his differences with Trent and me aside, Trent and I have left bygones be bygones and the three of us are all here for one another. Actually, Trent is on a date tonight, but he's here for me in spirit.
Matt Striker: You're facing Seth Rollins tonight, who alongside Dean Ambrose is one half of the number one contenders for the Tag Titles. Rollins and Ambrose are said to have a very reluctant partnership and with that in mind, have you considered the fact that Ambrose may choose to get involved in your match tonight?
Zack Ryder: Of course. I've made enemies, Matt. Rollins and Ambrose are after me and so are Muhammad Hassan and Daivari. But like I said before, Trent and Curt are here for me. If Ambrose, Hassan or Daivari try anything during my match, I trust Curt to have my back.
Matt Striker: What are your thoughts on Seth Rollins, a relative newcomer to the EBWF?
Zack Ryder: I think he's a very talented wrestler. After making a name for himself in Ring of Honor, Seth was underrated by the WWE, but now he's in the EBWF his talent will be appreciated. The fact that he has a title shot lined up after wrestling just three matches is a sign of that. But like you said earlier, Matt... I'm a double champion! I have both talent and heart, and that will shine through tonight. This is my first match as a double champion and I don't plan on losing it. So if you see Seth Rollins tonight, tell him to expect the Broski Boot because talented though he may be, he's just a pit-stop on the Ryder Revolution! Woo woo woo... you know it!
Matt Striker: Zack, thank you for your time, good luck tonight.
Striker exited the locker room and the scene faded.
