The Only Role I Will Play

Rey Mysterio shocked the wrestling world a couple of weeks back when he revealed a new brash attitude and ripped off his mask on a live segment with Jim Ross. He shocked the wrestling world once again when he went from an underperforming superstar that had been looked over both literally and figuratively in the EBWF, to a man who was defeating a former World Champion in AJ Styles in the first round of the King of the Ring tournament. To move past the next stage in the tournament, Rey would have to get by another former EBWF Champion, in the person of Aiden English. If Rey's match with AJ was any indication, it was clear that this new Rey Mysterio Jr. may be up for the challenge.

The scene opened up at shopping mall in Atlanta, Georgia, the site of EBWF Warfare. The camera panned around until it found a large sign that said meet EBWF superstar Rey Mysterio Jr. in big Blue Letters. The EBWF logo was underneath the text, and predictably a maskless Rey Mysterio Jr. sat at a booth and there was a line of people, who were all interested in meeting him. The camera got close enough that we could now hear some dialouge between Rey and his fans. The first man up, was a nerdy looking caucasion man in his mid twenties. He had a mask in his hand and held it out to Rey. Rey looked at it, then back at the man.

Rey Mysterio Jr. : What do you want me to do with that?

Nerdy Fan: Um sign it? Please? I know you are no longer wearing a mask, but it's what people know you for, and I just thought it would be very cool to have a signed Rey Mysterio Jr. mask.

Rey thought about the mans comment.

Rey Mysterio Jr. : What people know me for? What they know me for? My man, people don't know me.. that's the whole point isn't it? People don't know who the real Rey Mysterio Jr. even is. The REAL Rey Mysterio Jr. was the one you saw a few weeks ago against AJ Styles. The real Rey Mysterio is NOT the man in the mask, it's not the guy who goes head to head with kids in the crowd like I'm a real life cartoon character or something. The real Rey Mysterio Jr. is an undeniable fighter. An undeniable talent, and a FIGHTER and a TALENT.. that is SICK and TIRED of BEING denied. So no I won't sign your mask.. and I don't accept your reasoning for wanting your autograph on it. Because it's this simple.. the mask is DEAD.. the old Rey Mysterio Jr... DEAD.. and anyone who has a problem with it.. well they'll meet that SAME fate. Some people think that the mask represents a heritage.. that it represents culture.. but to be all it represents is failure. All it represents is me being taken advantage of. So I got rid of it, and what happened huh? What happened? First match without it.. first match with a new outlook, a new perspective and BOOM.. just like that I defeat AJ Styles a former EBWF Champion.. to move on to the second round of the King of the Ring Tournament.. and GUESS what? I plan on moving on again this week against ANOTHER former Champion in Aiden English, and do you know why? Because I'm BETTER than him too, he may be trying to come off as someone who will stop at nothing to regain the success he once had.. but the difference between us.. is that his success that he had.. was a complete and utter fluke.. whereas for me.. the success I am about to have.. is indeed no fluke at all.. it is something that has been a long, long time coming.. and it's something that's going to last a long time.. because I will be RELENTLESS in NEVER giving it up.. once I FINALLY have that success in my hands.

Nerdy Fan: You really won't sign my mask?

Rey snapped his fingers and a couple of large security guards behind him escorted the man out of the plaza.

Rey Mysterio Jr. : Next.

This time a Latin girl approached Rey. She was in her late twenties and was very attractive. She smiled as she approached Rey.

Attractive Fan: Heyy! Rey so I want to tell you that I've always been a big fan of yours, but maybe now more than ever.

Rey smiled somewhat surprised.

Rey Mysterio Jr. : Well thank you.. I appreciate that.

Attractive Fan: It's no problem. I stood in my condo and cheered when I saw that interview with JR.

Rey Mysterio Jr. : Well it's nice to have someone who understands where I'm coming from. People just don't seem to get, that I did what I did not for shock value. There's too many people in this business that do things just to try and get a reaction. My opponent on Warfare Aiden English is a prime example of that. He will do WHATEVER he has to do.. act HOWEVER he has to act to try and pander and get a reaction from people whether it's positive or negative. For me, what I did in that interview was for NOBODY BUT MYSELF. That mask in this company was my ankle weight.. it was the representation of something that I didn't sign up for. So I got rid of it, not to shock people.. not to upset people.. but to FREE myself of what that mask was coming to represent. In that mask, I was the pushover.. without it.. I DO the pushing.. in that mask I was the joke.. without it.. I'M the one laughing. In that mask.. I was getting my ass kicked week after week.. WITHOUT IT.. I WILL BE DOING THE ASS KICKING. Aiden English is a fraud.. and Rey Mysterio Jr.. now MORE THAN EVER.. is the realest mother f'er in this entire company. If the fans want to now hate me, they can go ahead.. if they want to cheer for me.. they can go ahead.. but they need to know.. that from the second that mask hit the floor in that interview.. NOTHING that I do.. is FOR them.. EVERYTHING I do.. is for me.. it's for my success.. my limelight.. my LONG awaited time to shine. That's what's inspiring every decision I make moving forward. Aiden English is going to get caught in this rat race that this business creates. He's going to get exposed for being an adapter just to try and prolong people finding out that he's actually pretty worthless in the ring, and even as an entertainer. You can dress a piece of shit up in multiple outfits.. but at the end of the day.. it's still that same piece of shit.. but I guess that's besides the point. Long story short, I appreciate you appreciating real. Real recognize real mama.. so would you like an autograph?

Attractive Fan: Of course.

Rey signed one of the pictures in front of him and handed it to the girl.

Girl: Gracias.

Rey Mysterio Jr. De nada chica. Thanks for understanding me.

She smiled and walked away with the signed picture. A heavyset man was next. He wore a black t-shirt with the EBWF logo in the middle.

Heavyset Fan: Hey Rey.

Rey Mysterio Jr. : What's going on big man?

Heavyset Fan: Not much- thanks for being here.

Rey Mysterio Jr. : All good homie. I was actually thrilled to see so many come out. I've heard nothing but bitching and moaning, since the interview with JR. A lot of "Why, Rey?" So it's great to have so many come out to want to meet me.

Heavyset Fan: What would you have done if there wasn't a lot of us?

Rey Mysterio Jr. : Honestly bro, as nice as it is to see that there seems to be a decent amount of people that get where I'm coming from.. if nobody got it.. then I wouldn't have cared.. even a little tiny bit. You see my man.. life is all about peace of mind. When I finally broke my.. for lack of a better word.. SILENCE.. in that interview.. it was like a giant boulder had been lifted off my shoulders. It is exhausting, and weighs you down.. when you try to do things for other people. When you try to MAKE people like you.. force them to like you.. force them to care about you. A lot of times when you do that.. it ends up having the opposite effect. That's something dudes like Aiden English don't really seem to get. It's so painfully obivous that he's so focused on trying to act weird one day.. or tough the next day.. or funny the day after that.. or light hearted the day after that.. he's scrambling.. trying to figure out something that's going to get people to look his way. He looks exhausted.. he looks.. well he looks desparate honestly. His desparation as a result, has the opposite effect on the people than he wants it to have. His desparation also has made it's way to the ring for him. Aiden was once the EBWF World Champion.. now he's just the guy that's going to get roughed up by the master of the 619, Rey Mysterio Jr. It's hard to do anything when you're simply just trying TOO hard and that is what Aiden English represents right now. The dude is a try hard.. he's trying to force something to happen.. and as a result.. it's not going to happen for him. Aiden is never going to rekindle that success because he wants it so bad that he's lost focus as to how he got it in the first place. Aiden English was once himself.. now there's just so many versions of him that it's hard to even keep track. Which ever of his personalities show up to Warfare though, I can promise that it won't be enough.. because I'm lazer focused on what I'm doing.. on what my END game is.. and my END game is to become the King of the Ring.. and to be the guy DIRECTLY responsible for yet another setback.. yet another bunnies head popped off from Aiden squeezing to hold onto relevance too hard.. that eventually.

Rey made a pop noise.

Heavyset Fan: I think wrestling fans are smarter than people realize.

Rey Mysterio Jr. : I completely agree only in some instances though. Some of the fans are absolute complete idiots. Those that would rather me wear a mask and get paraded around like some sort of trained monkey who sings for his supper. Not going to happen anymore homie. The only thing I'm doing now for my supper.. is heading to that ring.. and wrestling circles around clowns like Aiden English. It's something I've been capable of doing from the jump.. but now I'm literally not thinking about doing anything else.. so I'm literally not going to do.. well.. anything else. Aiden English is probably looking at me like someone he can try and make an example of. He's looking at me as a golden opportunity because people are buzzing about the last time I was in front of the camera, buzzing about my "UPSET" over AJ Styles... Aiden is looking at me as his opportunity to get back into the conversation. The problem with Aiden's idea.. is that the only conversation people are going to be having after Warfare.. is that Rey Mysterio Jr. is NOBODY to mess with.. I'm NOBODY to get ahead on.. and that I'm no longer.. NOBODY when it comes to this company. In fact my bro.. Rey Mysterio Jr.. is about to become the biggest somebody in this entire company.. I'm about to become the KING of this company.. and whether you like it.. whether the next guy likes it.. whether Aiden English likes it.. I like it.. and that's just all that matters.

The man nodded and offered Rey a fist bump. Rey obliged and signed a picture for the man.

Heavyset Fan: Thanks man.

As the man left, a wild fan in a Rey Mysterio Jr. mask rushed past two patiently waiting fans that were in line.

Masked Fan: WHY REY!? HOW COULD YOU DO THIS!? BOO YAH KAH... BOO YAH KAH...

Rey shook his head.. and snapped his fingers. Two more security guards had appeared behind him.. and escorted the man out of the plaza.. on his way out the man yelled out one last..

Masked Fan: BOO YAH KAH!!!

Rey stood up on his chair and addressed the entire crowd.

Rey Mysterio Jr. : Let that man be a lesson to all of you. I am a man.. I am as real as they come. So it's with that realness that I tell you that I don't feel bad if you feel betrayed by me. I don't feel bad if you were a bigger fan of the Rey Mysterio that existed before this transformation.. I don't feel bad and I don't care. Unless you are still ridin with me.. I don't even want you here, and I mean that. If people that are here get where I'm coming from.. and they understand where I'm at.. then I have no problem at all meeting you and talking with you. The one thing Rey Mysterio Jr.. will never be again.. is phony. Phony is the worst thing you can be. Aiden English, who is the next man to fall to me in the King of the Ring tourney is the EBWF's biggest phony. He's a well known movie buff.. which makes sense because everything that comes out of his mouth sounds to me like it's coming off a screenplay. There's nothing REAL about Aiden English.. Aiden English is an actor.. he's playing whatever role he's in the mood for that day. He's insulting all of your intelligence, because.. what we're seeing has NOTHING to do with who he actually is.. it's just always who he is on that day. Well to use movie terms.. I'm going to hit you all with some spoilers. Who Aiden is going to be, the next time you see him, is the guy that is going to get absolutely decimated.. absolutely dominated.. and absolutely humiliated.. by a far superiror.. a far more genuine.. a far more.. REAL star.. he's going to realize that the one thing that is better than being an actor.. the one thing that's better than being able to play multiple roles.. is being SO DAMN GOOD at this thing we call wrestling.. that the only ROLE.. I have to play.. is the role of MYSELF.. and my character name.. SOONER RATHER THAN LATER.. is going to read.. KING REY MYSTERIO JR.

Rey plopped back down in his seat, and continued to interact through this meet and greet, as the scene faded to black.
