Queen vs. Queen

THURSDAY MORNING – OCTOBER 28, 2021
*Returning from commercial break.*
RADIO HOST #1: “Annnd we’re back! In case you’re just tuning in, is Fight Nation on SiriusXM, just three days ahead of EBWF’s Fanniversary event – otherwise known as their 20th birthday. And we are so excited to have one of the company’s biggest success stories on the line. Torrie Wilson, thank you so much for taking the time to call in this morning.”
TORRIE WILSON: “Thanks for having me, guys! And it’s okay, you can say it. I happily respond to ‘legend’ these days.”
Torrie and the hosts share a collective chuckle.
RADIO HOST #1: “A legend indeed. Now as if it wasn’t already a huge week for EBWF in general, the hype has only intensified since you’ve officially been confirmed to be competing this Sunday. Tell us, was it a hard decision to decide to step back into the ring?”
TORRIE WILSON: “Of course it wasn’t a hard sell. I mean, I’ve done it how many times since ‘retiring?’ – We can go ahead and put air quotes on that since I’m proof that there’s no such thing as retirement in what we do. EBWF is, and always will be, a huge part of my life. I love coming back, whether it’s just to say ‘hi’ to everyone backstage, or to go out there and put on a show for all the fans. And come on, for EBWF’s birthday? I have to be there.”
RADIO HOST #2: “That match is going to see yourself going one-on-one with someone you have a fair amount of history with, Trish Stratus. What was your reaction to finding out she’d be your opponent for Sunday?”
TORRIE WILSON: “Well, I definitely thought it would be a fitting matchup. Trish and I do have a lot of history, for sure. Which goes back to even before either of us had stepped into a wrestling ring. I’m not going to say the year, because I don’t need to date either of us, but we basically went from working booths at fitness expos to running the ropes and beating the crap out of each other in the ring… one of those times being for the Women’s Championship at SummerSlam, which, oh yeah! I won that one.”
The hosts shout an “oohhh…” while Torrie laughs in the background.
RADIO HOST #1: “And so it begins…”
TORRIE WILSON: “I’m just teasing. Trish is one of my favorite people on Earth and she knows it. We talk all the time and she’s been there for me in every aspect of my life… but I know I can speak for the both of us when I say we’re super competitive by nature. And I’ll give it to her, while I’ve stepped away from the full time schedule, she’s stayed at it and hasn’t slowed down in the slightest. So she’s got that on me for sure. But what I will also say is that either way, my trophy case is still the biggest of any woman in EBWF’s 20 year history for a reason. Have we mentioned that EBWF is turning 20 yet?”
RADIO HOST #2: “Oh, we have. And we’ll continue to! But in all seriousness, do you ever feel any resentment that you can come back and do these ‘one night only’ appearances, while so many others are still full ti—”
Host #2 cuts himself off to avoid sounding disrespectful, while Host #1 eyes him.
RADIO HOST #1: “Yeah, I wouldn’t go there either.”
RADIO HOST #2: “I don’t mean it like that! I just… I—”
Torrie’s giggling quickly lightens the mood.
TORRIE WILSON: “It’s okay, I understand. But to answer your question, no, I don’t. And I really don’t mean to sound arrogant when I say this, but… I do these ‘one offs’ because I can. I put in the work and paid my dues for years and years, so if I want to come back here and there, especially when asked, I’m going to do just that. Hey, if I don’t own who I am and what my status is, who else will?”
RADIO HOST #1: “Well said. Now we know that you have a busy few days ahead of you, so we’re gonna go ahead and let you go – but before we do, are there any last words you want to say before Fanniversary this Sunday?”
TORRIE WILSON: “Sure! I’d just like to say thank you to everyone who has followed my career from start to finish… to restart to refinish, and continues to support me and make me feel so loved and appreciated every single time I pop back up on your screens. This Sunday, it’s Queen vs. Queen and I know Trish and I are going to put on a clinic. And of course, Happy Birthday, EBWF!”
RADIO HOST #2: “Torrie, thank you for joining us, and good luck Sunday!”
RADIO HOST #1: “Thanks, Torrie!”
TORRIE WILSON: “No problem, guys! See everyone there!”
