Monday, January 22nd: Denver, Colorado

The scene opened with Adam Cole and Britt Baker sitting in their hotel room in Denver, Colorado. Earlier that evening, Adam and Britt had both featured prominently on Warfare, EBWF’s final show before the first pay-per-view of 2024, Last Survivor. Adam, who was challenging Damian Priest for the EBWF World Championship at Last Survivor, had “called out” Priest on Warfare and gone toe to toe with him in a verbal back and forth. Britt had been involved in the main event, EBWF’s first ever “Feast or Famine” match, where she had successfully retrieved one of the three briefcases hanging above the ring. The briefcase had been “famine” rather than feast, and meant that Britt would be entering the women’s Last Survivor match at number one. Still, Britt had performed well in the match, and Adam was extremely proud of her.

Adam Cole: What a night, huh?

Britt Baker: Definitely one for the books. You were on fire out there.

Adam Cole: Thanks, Britt. So were you! I know I’m a little biased because you’re my girlfriend, but I genuinely thought you were the star of the Feast or Famine match. It was awesome, and gave you a chance to shine.

Britt laughed.

Britt Baker: Thank you. It feels good to be back in the spotlight, you know? But enough about me; let's talk about you. You’re finally getting a shot at the EBWF World Title... that’s huge! I’m really proud of you.

Adam smiled.

Adam Cole: Yeah, I still can’t quite believe it. There have been times in my EBWF career when I felt like I was never going to accomplish anything, but I kept working hard – you made sure I did - and I feel like the past six months or so have been one of the best periods of my whole wrestling career. I just hope I can maintain that, whatever happens on Sunday, and that I can hold my own against Priest. The guy's been on an absolute tear since he arrived in EBWF.

Britt Baker: But so have you, Adam. Look at everything you've accomplished. Breakout Champion, Gateway Champion, all those open challenges, your match with Will Ospreay at Christmas Eve of Destruction... you've been tearing it up just as much as Priest has! I know I’m a little biased because you’re my boyfriend, but I genuinely think you’re one of the biggest stars in EBWF right now.

After paraphrasing the compliment Adam had given her a few moments earlier, Britt winked at him. Adam couldn’t help but smirk.

Adam Cole: That’s true. These past few months, I’ve been given the opportunity to show how good I am in the ring, and tonight I got to remind everyone that I can more than hold my own on the microphone too. Damian and I brought the fire out in each other, didn’t we? If the reaction of the crowd was anything to go off, people are excited to see us wrestle on Sunday. And if, when it’s all said and done, I’m the one holding that EBWF World Championship? Well, you know how much that would mean to me.

Britt Baker: I’m keeping everything crossed for you. You deserve it; you've worked your ass off for this moment. And hey, even if things don't go your way at Last Survivor, you've still made history. No one can take that away from you.

Adam nodded.

Adam Cole: You’re right. And speaking of making history... you’ve just become one of the winners of the first ever EBWF “Feast or Famine” match, and on Sunday you could win Last Survivor from the number one spot! If everything goes our way, we’ll be able to have a double celebration Sunday night, with all of our family watching.

Britt smiled, and squeezed Adam’s hand.

Britt Baker: I’m so glad we get to spend the next week in Pennsylvania. I love Orlando, but Pennsylvania will always be home... it’s where our families are. It’s where we met. It’s special, you know?

Adam Cole: You mean you’re not going to complain about the fact that Last Survivor is in Philly rather than Pittsburgh?

Britt rolled her eyes playfully.

Britt Baker: It’s still Pennsylvania. Besides, maybe when you become the World Champion, you can demand that they book a celebration for us in Pittsburgh!

Adam laughed.

Adam Cole: I’m not sure I’ll have that much power... but I’ll do my best. Thanks for your support, Britt. You bring out the best in me, and I hope I do the same for you.

Britt Baker: You definitely do. We’re a team, remember?

Adam and Britt shared a smile, then began to get ready for bed. As he climbed into bed, Adam reflected on the face that his relationship with Britt was a true partnership... he knew that whatever happened, both in the ring and in their personal lives, they were ready to take on any challenges that came their way as long as they did so together.

Sunday, January 28th: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

It was late Sunday afternoon, and the Last Survivor pay-per-view was just hours away. Adam Cole had arrived at the arena, got changed into his ring gear, and he was now scheduled for an interview with Renee Young. Cole joined Renee in the interview zone that EBWF had set up backstage at the Wells Fargo Center, and as the camera started rolling, Renee began to speak.

Renee Young: Good evening, EBWF fans! Please welcome my guest at this time, Adam Cole!

Cole stepped into frame, the Breakout and Gateway Championships slung over his shoulders.

Renee Young: Adam, tonight you have the opportunity of a lifetime as you challenge Damian Priest for the EBWF World Championship. How are you feeling heading into this match?

Adam Cole: Renee, I'm feeling more focused than ever. This is what I've worked for, what I've dreamed of since the moment I set foot in EBWF. Damian Priest may be a tough opponent, but I've faced tough opponents before and come out on top. Tonight will be no different.

Renee Young: Some people have said that you're perhaps underestimating Priest, especially after his impressive undefeated streak. What's your response to that?

Adam Cole: Underestimating him? Far from it, Renee. I know exactly what Damian Priest is capable of... in fact, the last match I lost here in EBWF was against Damian Priest, in the King of the Ring tournament last year. I’m surprised he didn’t mention that on Warfare, to be honest; maybe he’s forgotten, given what he’s gone on to accomplish since then. But I’ve accomplished a lot since then, too. The night Priest became the EBWF World Champion, I won both the Breakout and Gateway Championships. Since becoming a double champion, I have successfully defend the Breakout Championship 14 times, offering a title opportunity to any and all challengers... there can’t be many champions in EBWF who have defended their championship that many times! Then Will Ospreay and his “United Empire” came after my Gateway Championship, and we all know what happened there... I didn’t just beat him, I gave him such a beating that I made him realise he wasn’t cut out for EBWF, and he decided he was better off staying in Japan. Priest might not have given me much thought since that match back in June, but these past seven months or so, I’ve been working towards a rematch, a chance to set the record straight. I didn’t realise it at the time, but everything that’s happened since then has been leading to this match. So no, I’m not underestimating Damian Priest at all. I've studied him, I've prepared for him, and with the form I’m in right now, I'm more than ready to take him down. The question you should be asking, Renee, is whether Priest is underestimating me.

Renee Young: Well let’s talk about that, and the comments exchanged between you and Damian Priest on Warfare. Priest seemed quite confident that he was going to beat you, and make you eat your words.

Cole smirked.

Adam Cole: Oh yeah, he’s definitely confident Renee. And I get that; I’m a confident guy too. But it seems to me that his confidence has become arrogance, and that's when you’ve got to be careful, because arrogance leads to complacency. Damian Priest thinks he's untouchable, but nobody stays undefeated forever. Tonight, I'm going to prove that.

Renee Young: Strong words, Adam. Any final thoughts before you head out for your match?

Adam Cole: Yes. I’d like to address Priest directly, if I may?

Renee nodded, and stepped back as Cole stepped forwards, facing the camera directly. Cole clapped his hands together three times, then began to speak.

Adam Cole: Damian, Damian, Damian. You’ve had quite a run. You signed your EBWF contract, immediately entered the King of the Ring tournament, and you haven’t looked back. You claimed that crown, then went on to win the ultimate prize... the EBWF World Championship. Some people would resent you for that, but I applaud you. You came in knowing exactly what you wanted, and you made sure no one could stop you from getting it. And you mostly did it by yourself, even if Paul Heyman did give you a helping hand along the way. It’s taken me a little longer to get my World Title opportunity, but I’ve gone from strength to strength these past few months. This is my moment, and I’m ready for it. So before you head down to the ring tonight, Priest, hold that World Title nice and close... because when you leave the ring, you won’t be leaving with the championship.

Cole gave a determined nod before walking off, his focus squarely on the task ahead. He knew he was in for a tough night... but win or lose, he was going to give Priest the fight of his life.
