It was less than thirty minutes until EBWF Warfare was due to begin, and a pre-show was airing on EBWF’s YouTube channel. After a recap of Renee Young announcing the “redemption matches” for the King and Queen of the Ring tournament, the show cut to a live feed of Renee Young standing backstage at the Fargodome, where Warfare was taking place. Standing beside Renee was one of the two women set to compete in the Queen of the Ring redemption match, Britt Baker.
Renee Young: Good evening folks, and welcome to this exclusive interview here on the EBWF Warfare pre-show! I'm Renee Young, and joining me today is none other than "The Role Model" herself, Dr Britt Baker DMD. Britt, thank you for joining me.
Britt Baker: Always a pleasure, Renee. Let's get into it.
Renee Young: Britt, you've got a big redemption match coming up against Liv Morgan. But before we talk about that, let's discuss your first-round match against Ava Johnson. What happened there?
Britt sighed. She knew the question had been coming, but thinking about her first-round loss still frustrated her.
Britt Baker: Well, Renee, I wish I could say Ava just got lucky, but the truth is, she deserved that win. I underestimated her. The last time we faced off, in her EBWF debut, I came out on top, and I guess I assumed it would be the same story last week. Clearly, Ava has been putting in the work, and it showed in our match. We're tied 1-1 now, so a rubber match is definitely in our future. When that time comes, I won't make the same mistake again… but until that day comes, I’d like to congratulate Ava on her victory, and wish her the best of luck in the rest of the tournament. If she makes it all the way to the final, maybe we’ll get our rubber match at Total Supremacy, and I can beat her to become Queen of the Ring.
Renee Young: That is a possibility, as because of the redemption match, you’re now on the other side of the bracket. If you beat Liv Morgan, you will face Natalya in the quarter final, and the winner of that match will face either Maika or Utami in the semi-finals. I will ask you about your match tonight in just a moment, but first, I’d like to talk about Ava Johnson some more if you don’t mind. I interviewed Ava last week, and she had some interesting comments about you. Would you care to respond to Ava’s comments?
Britt Baker: You know what, Renee? Normally I wouldn’t, because I rarely take offense to anything my opponents say about me, but there were a couple of things she said that got under my skin… so I’d like to take this opportunity to set the record straight. First, she called me a “failed dentist”? That’s a laugh. I started training to be a dentist the same year I started training to be a wrestler, back in 2014. Maybe that makes me indecisive, but I had dreams of being both a dentist and a wrestler, so I pursued them. Much like Ava's father wanted to be both a wrestler and an actor. The difference? I've been successful in both careers simultaneously. I don’t flit back and forth between the two depending on what suits me at the time, aka who is offering me the most money. Wrestling isn’t a “weekend hobby” for me; it’s my passion, just like dentistry. Ava also accused me of “sitting at home”, because I haven’t been on TV much recently. Now maybe I could have joined her and the other rookies in the Performance Center and kept myself busy that way; if I’d done that, maybe I’d have been better prepared last week. But I sure as hell haven’t been sitting at home, Ava. I’ve been showing up to Warfare every week, waiting for my moment. I may not have had as many matches this year as I would’ve liked, but I've been here, ready. I do agree with her that the current women’s division in EBWF is "a drag", though. I think the women's division could use a shake-up, and Ava showed me last week that she’s tougher than I gave her credit for, so maybe, just maybe, we can put our differences aside and overhaul the division together? We could call ourselves “Dwayne's Daughter and the Deranged Dentist”. That would be one fearsome combination.
Baker smirked, and even Renee seemed amused at Britt’s proposed tag team name for her and Ava.
Renee Young: With all due respect, Britt, that team name might need some work, but I’d certainly be interested to see what would happen if you and Ava Johnson ever teamed up. Now, let’s talk about tonight’s opponent, Liv Morgan. You two have faced each other in EBWF before; you wrestled each other one on one on the first Warfare of 2023, and on that occasion, you came out on top. How are you feeling about this redemption match, and what are your thoughts on your opponent?
Britt Baker: Liv is no joke, Renee. She's a former EBWF Women's Champion, a Royal Rumble winner, and a Queen of the Ring. I respect her and I know she’ll be a tough opponent. But like you said, the last time we faced off one on one, I beat her. If memory serves me correctly, I made her submit. Liv might have a lot of accolades in her past, but for too long she’s played the supporting role. I called her out as “the lesser half of Team Liv N Bliss” last time we faced each other, and now she’s playing second fiddle not just to Alexa Bliss, but also to “Queen Delulu”, Becky Lynch. I can’t help but wonder if Liv still has the drive to go for glory herself anymore, or if she's content being in someone else's shadow. As for me? I'm not willing to be in anybody's shadow. I am frustrated that I slipped up last week, but tonight, my redemption starts by beating Liv Morgan and taking my rightful place in the Queen of the Ring quarter finals.
Renee Young: Britt, thank you for your time and your insights. Best of luck in your match tonight.
Britt Baker: Thanks, Renee. I won’t need luck, though. Just skill and determination.
As Baker walked away, Renee turned to face the camera.
Renee Young: There you have it, folks. Britt Baker, focused and ready for her redemption match, which will be opening Warfare in about 15 minutes. Don't miss it!
