Final Boss Time

We begin with what for most fans is a painful replay of the previous week’s happenings. For a moment, Rebellious Angels look to finally have the advantage over Oedo Tai. The crowd is going wild in anticipation of a big babyface win after the constant terror unleashed by the dominant heels. Then it all falls apart as Tam Nakano sneaks into the ring to clock Liv Morgan with her belt. Moments later the ref counts there and it's over.
As the fans in attendance boo their hearts out, the camera pulls back to reveal someone watching the Warfare replay. Standing there in brand new ring gear with shorter hair is Tam herself. A proud grin crosses her lips as she relives this most recent victory. From above the fluorescent lighting glints off of the EBWF Women's Championship secured diagonally across her chest. A couple beats later she turns her head and winks to the camera.
TAM NAKANO: Beautiful, isn't it? In all of professional wrestling there's nothing quite as satisfying as a plan coming together so perfectly. So perfect in fact that you should tie it up with a cute little bow! I know that you're all very silly and were expecting the remnants of Rebellious Angels to somehow pull one over on us. Your heart, does it hurt? Do you need some special healing energy from the Top Kawaii of the Cosmos?
She cups her chin cutely in both hands and shuffles a few steps towards the camera.
TAM NAKANO: Putting your entire heart and soul into something destined to lose is exhausting isn't it? Don't worry, Tam’s here to help make it all better.
The champion nods knowingly, as if reading the mind of all the EBWF faithful. Then her adorable concern turns to a snarky smile and she stands tall again.
TAM NAKANO: But let's be honest, there's nothing cute about what's going down tonight. You don't get the luxury of kawaii when it's the Final Boss of EBWF; the reigning, defending and undisputed EBWF Women's Champion, hell, the most dominant EBWF Women's Champion in HISTORY, the one true heir to the glory of Oedo Tai, Tam Nakano versus.. Liv Morgan. That's right, you're all being treated to a rematch between the single greatest wrestler in EBWF history and Alexa Bliss' BFF. How FUN!
She playfully brushes a hand through her shorter hair.
TAM NAKANO: I'm sure that after last week, there's a lot of anger on her end. A lot of resentment wrongly directed at Tam! It's not Tam's fault that after all these years she still doesn't have proper ring awareness. It's not Tam's fault that she still can't do much more than exist in Alexa's tiny shadow. In fact, she should thank Tam for putting her out of her misery like that. If that match had gone on much longer she wouldn't have been able to walk out under her own power. If she resents me for doing her a favor? She'll just have to Liv with it.
Tam laughs at her own stupid joke and then smiles wider.
TAM NAKANO: As for little old me? I've changed it up for the sake of keeping things fresh around here. This is the first time - well, since my first time in Oedo Tai - that my hair’s been so short! Does it look good? Do I beguile you?
She briefly as trikes an idol’s pose before continuing on.
TAM NAKANO: Oh why do I care what Liv Morgan thinks? The girl still believes she's even in the same postal code as those who deserve to stand in a ring with me. Let's put it this way: there's a reason MY beautiful championship isn't on the line tonight. The moment Liv earns a shot at it is the moment reality itself crumbles to dust. So tonight is less of a challenge for me and more of a warm up. A way to stay in practice with a modest amount of resistance and remind the world why I'm the damn best.
She winks again, as if this is just an open secret.
TAM NAKANO: Liv thinks she's coming into this match with revenge as her goal. Payback for all the pain and suffering that's rightfully been inflicted on her and her ‘friends’ after they kept coming back to Oedo Tai for a beating. Stupidly assuming this is going to end any other way. I guess it's good to have dreams, but.. it's just going to make the destruction I unleash on her more painful. And if she's sore after I gave her that little lump on the head? I guess that's why she doesn't realize that was a special present from the Final Boss to her. One act of kindness extended to an undeserving little girl who wants to be treated like a grown up.
Tam taps the belt with a knowing smirk.
TAM NAKANO: You see, it wasn't just a way to ensure the natural order of things is preserved. No, no. It was a gift! I let the Eternal Second Place-finisher touch this beautiful championship. Get a feel for what it's like to hold gold, to have this symbol of excellence nearby. Because she will never hold or be that symbol herself! She will never stumble upon this greatness again. It's been six years going on seven since she accidentally became champion. An accident since I can't imagine a world in which she could possibly have earned the most prestigious prize in our sport. She held it once, lost it in her first defense and fell back to her natural state of mediocrity as I was just starting my career.
Tam shakes her head sadly.
TAM NAKANO: I also held it briefly and lost it in my first defense the first time I was champ. It haunted me. It drove me mad, kept me up at night and drove me to the breaking point in pursuit of improvement. When I came back I took my prize back and shattered all expectations. I became the longest reigning women's champion. It's my name in the record books, me that appears in people's minds when they think of this title. And then? I took back what was mine again this August. That is what separates me from Liv. It's the difference between creeping eternal afterthought status and Final Boss. And that has not changed, Liv. You are satisfied to just be a ‘good friend' and to coast along on misplaced support from fickle fans and nostalgia. I am constantly pushing myself to improve, become stronger and raise the level of what women's professional wrestling can be.
She tugs at the belt again for emphasis.
TAM NAKANO: So take a good, hard look at this beautiful championship, Liv. Then take a look in the mirror and accept the truth that you're about to get beaten pillar to post by the definition of domination. There's no other choice when I and my title are sullied by sharing space with the always also-ran background character. I'm going to drive you through the mat so hard you might break the laws of time/space and end up back in 2018 when you stole this belt for a cup of coffee. I have only one loss in singles matches since my return. You will not be the second.
She steps back with a casual malice.
TAM NAKANO: Having spoken all that truth, I know you will resent me. I know you'll lash out rather than accept it. You will come at me with every ounce of fury you can muster. You will hate me. But you will never be better than me.
With that she blows a kiss and walks off screen, revealing the Oedo Tai logo on the wall.
