CM Punk Radio Interview Highlights

EBWF World Champion CM Punk took part in an interview with an Atlanta, Georgia rock station over the week end to promote the Royal Rumble. Here are the highlights:

His current reign: "Definitely the best of my EBWF run. The first two were so short because the office or whomever didn't think I was ready or whatever. The third finally solidified me in the main events and the matches with Jericho and Wes established me. But I think this one has had the strongest defenses. Even if I think someone is trying to kill me with these violent gimmick matches."

Who he feels will become major players: "You have guys like myself, Miz, Cena and AJ always floating around the top. Edge, Orton, Rock or DiBiase could always easily slide into those spots. But you have to start making new stars and I think younger guys like Dean Ambrose, Trent and Seth Rollins are all ready or very close to being there. Guys like Del Rio, James Storm and even Santino are starting to impress me. Obviously, they see something in Ambrose and I think he has all the tools. They're just going to have to keep his momentum going into 'Mania and keep building him."

The Diva's Division: "Well, they seemed to have stopped hiring chicks with no passion. That's a good start. Picked up some strong indy workers like MsChif, Portia Perez and Nicole Matthews. Maryse and A.J. are both very entertaining. I think if they ever give Paige a real shot she's going to be huge. Entertaining, she can wrestle, she's very young and has a unique look. Still, bonehead things like giving Maria a title run still happen. Even if she dropped the title quick, even a week is too long with that one."

What he would like to see in the future: "An over sea's tour! It's been way too long since we've been out of the country. I think it was planned but with everything that happened with Wes and to the company itself, it got derailed. But I think it should happen after 'Mania. The fans definitely want it."

His friends in the locker room: "None of them work here! Cabana, Joey Mercury, Cliff Compton, Luke Gallows. Kendrick and London obviously aren't around anymore. Well, Cabana got a short run. It was mostly to help with the Cena stuff. But he has his own thing going, his podcast and a thousand other projects. I don't really hate anyone anymore. Well, you know, other than the obvious answer. I'm a moody prick but I'm a little more friendly than I used to be. Just a little. I've got a lot of respect for Jericho, Orton and Edge. The majority of our roster, with a few exceptions, always do their best when they step out from behind the curtain so I'm cool with all of those people."

Wrestle Mania: "Truth to be told, I've only got one 'Mania match that I've been proud of. The first one, the tag title match with Ted, was fine but we weren't given much time. Last years was a throwaway match so the less said about that the better. I think the one with AJ really holds up. Which is why I want a really strong match this year."

If he main events Wrestle Mania: "I've said before, that's kind of the last thing to scratch off list in pro wrestling. I'm definitely not going to be wrestling into my forties so if that happens we'll see where we go from there."
