Bleacher report presents:
10 reasons why The Rock is not fit for an EBWF main event, let alone an EBWF World Title Reign
It seems like we're heading into WrestleMania at full throttle. Royal Rumble came by and left us Dean Ambrose as its winner, with John Cena and the Rock ending up 2nd and 3rd, respectively. Fallout will take place next week, the last PPV stop until Wrestlemania XII.
The main event left many fans wondering, debating and ranting. The closing mtch of the night pits CM Punk against The Rock for the World Title. Here at Bleacher Report we give you 10 Reasons why The Rock shouldn't leave the arena with the Title, let alone compete for it.
10. Unreliability.
The old saying says "A hunter who goes after two jackrabbits ends up catching none". Personally I don't think The Rock is able to focus on his wrestling career when he has a lot of responsibilities outside of the ring. He has two movies to film this year and two other movies to present, promote and hype. Guys like Miz, Anderson, DiBiase and CM Punk work Hectic schedules and do house shows almost on a daily basis, while Rock only has shown up at Major house shows and live events. Rock hasn't show commitment during his current stint, even disappearing for a month after CEOD after a reported bust up with Shane McMahon.
9. Not over.
This is probably the biggest problem with the Rock right now. While most fans seem to love him, there have been "Rocky Sucks" chants from time to time, specially when he faced Rated RKO. EBWF hasn't been able to capitalize on this polarizing personality, unlike WWE did with the early John Cena, who was loved by kids and hated by adult fans. General consensus is despite the Charisma and looks, the average wrestling fan cannot take the Rock seriously.
8. Polarizing personality.
The Rock's signing to EBWF was surrounded by controversy. First and foremost, he and Wes Ikeda reportedly have a rocky relationship, and who wouldn't? Considering what Dwayne did during a live event in 2010, EBWF hardcore fans saw Vince McMahon crashing the building as a slap across the face. Following the incidents at EBWG HQ in late October, the Board of Directors were looking for some "Star Power" to turn the nation's head from the incident back to the EBWF product. However, the Rock's addition to the roster didn't cause half the impact it was supposed to cause. It is said that now a days the Board of Directors is split between those who want Johnson out and those who want to keep him and even put the title on him. Having a Hollywood star holding your title belt sounds like a real delight (David Arquette Anyone?).
7. Rock's demands.
It has been reported that The Rock is being paid a ridiculous amount of money per show. Apparently, he also demands a private, fully loaded locker room with coconut water and many other demands. These demands aren't taken too highly by the fellow EBWF boys. No word has been said on if Rock has ever demanded a title shot.
6. Rock's relationships.
If rumors about Rated RKO wanting out of their flaming tables match at CEOD, one can assume The Rock isn't liked very much amongst fellow EBWF superstars. Ted DiBiase has also ranted about his dislike about Johnson via Twitter. As profitable as it may be to put the belt on a movie star, the locker room wouldn't seem to like that much.
5. Rock's Credibility.
He's the people's champion, the brahmma bull and he holds the guinness record for most consecutive catchphrases spat out during a promo; but booking hasn't exactly made The Rock a main eventer. Granted, he ended up in the last three participants of the rumble, but he entered at number 30. He is yet to win any major match yet, he doesn't look too strong against CM Punk.
4. Rock's Character.
General consensus in the world of wrestling is that Johnson's character has gotten stale over time. With practically the same character he walked out in the early 00s (Except for the massive amount of muscle he's put on), Rock is the same catchphrase guy he was. In order to be a main eventer or even a World Champion he needs to freshen up his act.
3. Dean Ambrose.
Ambrose's win took many fans by surprise (Despite we chipped in for him, remember?), there's a lot of talk going on about their main event at WrestleMania. Questions have aroused regarding the match stipulation, about Brian Kendrick's involvement in the match. Creative also believes CM Punk is a much better match for Ambrose in the ring than Rock is.
2. CM Punk.
CM Punk has been impressive this past year. He had a vicious match with John Cena and became King of the Ring, he caught the belt at Destiny and has defended it against the likes of Triple H and The Miz. Given Punk's momentum, one can really doubt if Rock would be the one to dethrone Punk.
1. Ring Rust.
The Rock has showed serious signs of ring rust during his matches. Slow paced and boring, Rock spends the time in his matches either on the mat, in headlocks or using his theatrical signature moves. Wrestling in EBWF is fast paced, probably too fast paced for the Rock. Rock's ring rust has been hinted by other EBWF talents, who have labelled it as dangerous.
