The Spotlight

Jason Reso sat at his computer as he read the news regarding the EBWF Rumble, in which he’d had one of the shortest participations ever. His facial expression seemed to have changed. Not for the worse, but still, it had changed. He seemed more focused, as he got his computer out of the way. He took out a small notebook where he began writing. His own voice narrating what was being written at the moment.
Christian (voice off):
“Dear Christian, what happened? Since when am I one of those guys who turns his back on his business, on his life, on his passion just because he damn well can. Then again, I have been losing a lot lately... That doesn’t matter! You don’t walk away from a slump, you cross it! Who the hell changed me along the way? Am I not the same? When I look in the mirror, don’t I see the same man?
Maybe, it’s just that, I’ve been going through my career with the wrong attitude. Lately, I’ve just been going through the motions for the sake of receiving the paycheck at the end of the month. Until now, I’ve been holding back, but no more. From now on, there is no nice Christian sharing the spotlight! I am the spotlight! I. Am. Christian. Cage.”
Just like that, he came to the realization that he couldn’t keep up the facade that for so long he had kept. He didn’t want to share the spotlight. He wanted the spotlight, and he wanted gold around his waist. And it seemed like someone in upper management knew that, as they booked a match between CM Punk and Christian. With the world title on the line, Christian couldn’t afford to be nice.

--- The Return ---
He was back, bigger, badder and better. After taking a Leave of Absence, Christian returned to EBWF in spectacular fashion. With a promo hyping his return, and a World Title match awaiting him in the Main Event, Christian was getting back on track. But now he had to deal with an interview with none other than Todd Grisham. We see him backstage at Warfare, wearing black jeans, and a white shirt with its sleeves rolled up. He stood alongside Todd Grisham as the interview began.
Todd:
Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, I am here with a man who only recently returned to EBWF, after going absent. I’m talking about none other than Christian. Christian, the first question on everyone’s minds is why? Why did you leave?
Christian:
Really, Todd, Really? Why did I leave? Wasn’t it obvious? The guy who was out there every week and couldn’t catch a break left and you wonder why? It’s quite simple, I had to improve myself. Christian was getting nowhere the way I was.
Todd:
What about your former friend, Rhyno?
Christian:
This is an interview about me, Todd. If you want to know about Terry, ask him yourself.
Todd:
Fair enough. We’ve received several complaints regarding your return being a World Title Match, care to reply to those who claim there is favoritism being shown?
Christian:
I worked hard to get to where I am in my career, and I’ll be damned if people say that a World Title match isn’t due to me. Besides, who else, on the roster deserves this shot? Ken Anderson? Don’t make me laugh.
Todd:
Is there some hostility between the two of you?
Christian:
Not at all. His old chewing-gum act isn’t big enough for me to even be hostile, or care about it. Besides, I’ve got bigger things to worry about, as in, the CURRENT world champion, CM Punk.
Todd:
Do you have any strategy going into this match?
Christian:
Punk’s one of those guys who, if I said right now, that I have the utmost respect for him, it would have little to no impact on him, even though it’s true, I respect his abilities. However, I don’t believe he is as determined as I am. I am the one who has something to prove and nothing to lose. I am the one who will pin CM Punk at Warfare.
Todd:
Strong words, but can you back them up?
Christian:
Can I back them up?! Little Todd, not only can I back them up... I will back them up. If you were going for this interview expecting me to be polite, and say I respect and that this match will be a challenge, then you’re interviewing the wrong guy. Yes, I respect him and yes, it will be a tough match, but as I said, I’m hell bent on winning this thing. Since signing for EBWF back in July 2012 that I’ve been waiting for my shot and Punk will not stand in my way. Nor Punk, nor anyone else who tries to stand in front of me will stop me.
Christian took the microphone from Todd, and pulled the camera so that it was focused on him, and no one else stood in the shot, this clearly was a different side to Christian.
Christian:
Punk, I don’t know and I don’t care if you’re watching this, but you should pay close attention. What you’re looking at right now is the man who will end Warfare, celebrating his title win. I am the sole person in this shot, and you know why? It’s because I’m not sharing the spotlight with anyone else anymore. I’m done playing the nice guy, and letting wastes of air time like Alberto Del Rio and Damien Sandow get their chances. I’m done with letting other guys cut ahead of me in line. I am “The Spotlight”, and after Warfare I’ll be the new EBWF World Champion.
